Evelin's POV
"I've already told you—we're done. I'm not doing this dance with you anymore," I said, keeping my voice level.
"But you showed up. That has to mean something, right? That you still feel something for me?" Jimmy murmured, his arms pulling me tighter, like he was hanging onto his last thread of sanity.
I could see him fighting to keep himself in check, his arms tightening around me as if restraining some animalistic impulse.
"I just don't want you taking your frustration out on Dalton," I replied, my tone ice-cold.
A rough laugh escaped his throat. "Don't even try to convince me you don't care. I can see right through that lie."
"Whatever you want to believe!" I snapped back, pushing against his chest. The shift in him was impossible to miss now—raw heat simmering just beneath his restraint.
Perfect. Looks like I'll have to knock his ass out and haul him to the hospital myself, I thought dryly, feeling my pulse quicken.
