Evelin's POV
"I know you're looking for your brother and heading to Thornvale for that, right? I can go with you," Allen offered.
"It's fine. I'll handle it on my own," I answered. Before discovering Allen's feelings, I wouldn't have thought twice about his offer.
But now that I knew Allen had feelings for me, accepting felt wrong. Like I'd be taking advantage of him for my own mess.
"The military and the embassy in Thornvale will both support me. I've visited before, so going alone won't be a problem," I explained. "Plus, I promised Selina I'd text her daily to check in."
Allen's smile turned bitter and mocking. Even my rejection had to be so final, he seemed to think, like I always kept a wall between us.
"Then I'll wait," he said quietly.
"What?" The response blindsided me.
