Chapter 38 - Chapter 36

The corridors shook around me as I tore my way through the Shie Hassaikai grunts. Bodies dropped, walls cracked, dust filled the air.

Sir Nighteye's voice echoed through the comms—tight, urgent, frantic.

"Midoriya! Get out of there! I've seen—something terrible—"

A future.

One of many.

Just like the time he saw All Might die.

I gritted my teeth.

"Not all futures come true. You taught me that, Sir."

And besides… how could I run when—

I saw her.

A tiny girl, trembling in the half-dark.

White hair.

Bandaged arms.

Eyes begging for someone—anyone—to notice her.

"...hey, little girl… are you alright?" I stepped closer, trying to soften my voice.

Her lips trembled.

"...P-Please… save me."

My entire body went cold.

Scars. All over her. Fresh. Old. Layered.

Overhaul did this.

"That bastard…" My fists shook. "He did this to you? To a kid?"

I crouched.

"I'm Izuku. What's your name, little girl?"

She flinched when I reached for her head.

"I'm… Eri…"

Her voice was so small it could snap.

I placed her carefully on my shoulder.

"Well, Eri… let's get you out of here, okay?"

My voice tried to sound gentle, but inside me something dangerous was boiling.I just want to kill that bastard..for making her go through this..

We walked.

Eri slowly relaxed—not fully, just enough to trust.

Turns out I'm good with kids. Who knew?

A pack of villains rounded the corner.

I didn't even stop walking.

Blackwhip snapped out—THWIP—THWIP—THWIP.

Bodies flew upward like puppets cut from strings.

"Extras," I muttered.

Then—

Mirio phased through the ceiling like a missile.

"Ah! Overdrive! Is she the girl you mentioned?!"

"Yeah. Her name's Eri."

Before he smiled, his face tensed.

"Midoriya, Sir Nighteye said you need to—"

"Don't sweat it, Senpai. He saw one future. That's all. I'm not running when a child needs help. Right, Eri-chan?"

I poked her cheek.

"O-Onni-chan…"

She smiled.

Damn. I melted a little.

"Mirio-senpai. Take her. Get her somewhere safe."

"N-No…" Eri clung to my collar. "Don't go…"

"Eri-chan… that onii-san is stronger than me. He'll protect you better than I can right now. Trust me, okay?"

She hesitated… then nodded, barely.

Mirio took her gently.

"Overdrive… what about you?"

I cracked my knuckles.

"Me? I'm gonna go kick someone's ass."

Mirio sweat-dropped.

'He looks super pissed…'

Before we moved, the building convulsed like something alive.

"Senpai—GO!"

Mirio sprinted away with Eri.

I inhaled.

"OFA: Full Cowl… 55%!"

Lightning ripped behind me as I launched myself upward—through floors, concrete exploding around me—blasting directly to the top level.

And there—

Chaos.

Overhaul—monstrous, calm, hateful—was fighting Shigaraki Rin, Kurogiri, and several League members.

"You think you can defy the Yakuza?!" Overhaul roared.

"I don't care if you're All For One or some washed-up relic," he snarled, lunging at Shigaraki. "The Shie Hassaikai bows to NO ONE."

"You damn traitor!" Rin hissed. "We had a deal! Getting Izuku Midoriya is TOP priority!"

"Cooperation requires money. You brought none."

Overhaul's arm morphed into spikes.

He swung—

"SMASH!"

I intercepted, blasting him back.

Shigaraki stared at me—shocked, confused.

I didn't care.

"Hero…" Overhaul hissed like the word was filth.

"Fine. One shot, two birds. I'll kill you BOTH."

Rin stepped close. "You changed your mind…?"

"No, you dipshit. I'd never join villains. I just have unfinished business with HIM."

I jerked a thumb at Overhaul.

Rin clicked his tongue.

"Fine. Don't forget—your rightful place is beside us, brother."

He warped away.

"Tch. Would've been nice to use him for a distraction…"

Below, Endeavor and several heroes were fighting a High-End Nomu.

Mirio was safely outside with Eri.

Good.

I could let loose.

"Nana-san… you watching?"

Her voice formed behind me, warm, familiar.

"You can tell?"

"You hide well, but not from me."

I smirked.

"I sensed you the moment you called out during the fight with Kurohane Rika"

She floated beside me, arms folded, hair drifting like smoke in the aftermath of my last punch.

"So what's the plan? Because that thing in front of us is NOT human anymore."

Overhaul's body writhed—muscle merging with muscle, bones splitting, skin tearing and reforming. Katsukame's mass fused into his frame like meat stitched onto a monster.

A grotesque kaiju silhouette swallowed the rooftop.

Each breath he took shook the entire district.

I exhaled slowly.

"I mean… the plan's simple, Nana-san."

I cracked my neck, lightning flickering at my feet.

"As you always say—kick his ass while smiling."

Overhaul's roar drowned the collapsing rooftop.

"YOU TOOK ERI—MY PRECIOUS, MY GOLDEN GOOSE—

I'LL KILL YOU, HERO!"

His voice was warped, layered—like multiple throats screaming at once.

The roof buckled.

Cracks spider-webbed outward until the entire structure burst open, the upper floors collapsing like dominos. The sky tore into view—blinding sunlight slicing through the dust.

Far above the broken floors, heroes fought desperately.

Endeavor's flames painted the battlefield orange.

Kamui Woods was barely restraining falling debris.

And at the very top—

Mirio held Eri, shielding her tiny body with his own.

Her hands shook violently.

Izuku… onii-chan…

I clenched my fists.

This had to end now.

I lowered my voice to a whisper:

"Full throttle… Nana-san. Guide me."

Nana's expression softened—pride, fear, love all mixed together.

She placed a steadying hand on my shoulder, her spectral warmth grounding me.

"Go, Izuku. Give him everything you've got."

I glanced down at my gauntlets—Melissa's custom reinforcement tech.

Her voice echoed in my memory:

"Three minutes. That's all I could safely push OFA to.

After that—it'll tear your arms apart."

Three minutes.

I nodded.

"Alright… let's crank this up."

I widened my stance.

The air pressure dropped.

Clouds above twisted inward.

Lightning spiraled around my arms as the gauntlets lit up, indicator lights flashing red.

My heartbeat synced with the device—

tick. tick. tick.

"OFA…"

Green sparks burst from my legs—

"ONE—"

A shockwave blasted outward, sending rubble flying.

"HUNDRED—"

The rooftop cratered beneath me, a green sun igniting at my core.

"PERCENT!!!"

BOOM!!!!

The world didn't just turn green—

It exploded into green.

Wind pressure flattened the remaining walls.

Every hero on the battlefield looked up.

The sky itself bent away from the force.

Overhaul shielded his face with a monstrous arm, screaming as the shockwave shredded parts of his mutation.

Even Nana flinched.

"…that's my boy."

I tightened my gauntlets—steam hissing as they locked into combat mode.

My veins glowed through my skin.

"Three minutes…" I whispered, lightning spiraling up my spine.

"Let's make every second count."

I vanished.

In a single step.

Overhaul's giant hand swiped down where I had been—

KRA-KOOOM!

An entire rooftop collapsed.

But I was already above him.

Flash Step. Air Kick. Directional Boost.

Every movement precise.

Perfect.

He looked up too late.

My fist smashed into his jaw—

"SMASH!!!"

The world rippled as the impact carried both of us upward, through the collapsing building, into the open sky.

Overhaul roared, regenerating midair, tendrils lashing out like spears.

I spun—Blackwhip swirling around me—cutting through the incoming barrage.

"You're not human anymore…" I growled.

Lightning crackled through my teeth.

"BUT I STILL AM.

AND I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS."

Overhaul lunged—

The air screamed.

The sky trembled.

BOOM!

I shot forward—shattering the rooftop beneath me.

Overhaul's massive, mutated arm came crashing down like a sledgehammer.

I twisted midair—Aerial Spin Step—barely grazing the impact zone as the shockwave pulverized the structure.

I countered instantly—

"Detroit Smash: Air Shredder!"

A spiraling burst of compressed wind ripped into Overhaul's chest, tearing through bone plating and sending his giant form stumbling back.

"YOU CALL YOURSELF HER FATHER?!"

I struck again—merciless.

Crack.

Ribs gave way.

Muscle tore.

"A father NEVER looks at their child like YOU do!"

A flash hit me—

All For One's eyes.

Warm. Gentle.

Looking at me the way a father should…

A smile that felt too gentle.

Hands that rested on my shoulder with a softness that didn't belong to a monster.

My jaw clenched.

Lightning flared hotter.

"People like you…" I growled,

"…don't get to call yourselves family."

My breath hitched, rage sharpening into something lethal.

Overhaul's left arm split into dozens of fleshy tendrils, whipping toward me like hungry serpents.

"Blackwhip: Cross Snare!"

Six tendrils of dark energy snapped out—

Binding. Redirecting. Countering the mass of strikes—

As I kicked off the air itself—

FWOOM—

I rocketed upward, dragging Overhaul with me by the sheer force of impact.

The entire battlefield shrank beneath us.

Buildings warped under the pressure.

Windows shattered.

Air twisted into a cyclone around us.

Nana's voice rang sharply behind me—

"IZUKU! TEN SECONDS!"

I gritted my teeth.

"More than enough!"

Overhaul roared as his body mutated again—

Spikes jutting out, claws lengthening, armored plates forming over his skull.

"You're NOT EVEN HUMAN!"

"Funny—"

I slipped behind him, my arm glowing so bright it was blinding—

"—I was thinking the same thing about YOU."

I aimed for his core.

"UNITED…

STATES…

SMASH!!!"

My punch tore through the clouds—

The explosion of light swallowed the sky.

The shockwave alone flipped entire fragments of the city below.

Overhaul's monstrous fusion shattered.

His true body was expelled—small, broken, powerless.

He slammed into the ground like a discarded puppet.

I landed moments after, panting, sweat evaporating from my skin.

I caught his limp form with Blackwhip before he could tumble off the broken ledge.

Heroes rushed in, shouting, scattering to secure him.

From above…

Eri watched.

She smiled—

Soft. Fragile.

The first true smile she'd ever shown me.

Damn…

That alone made everything worth it.

"That felt good," I muttered.

"That bastard deserved it," Nana snorted beside me.

I turned toward her.

"Nana-san… don't you have something to say to me?"

She froze—guilt flickering across her face.

"…Izuku-kun. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have—"

I gently pressed a finger to her lips.

"I'm glad you're back. I missed you. When you disappeared, something inside me felt… broken.

But now… I feel whole again."

Her eyes trembled.

She pulled my head into her embrace, holding me with shaking arms.

"You can touch me?" I whispered.

"I… I don't know how. It just… happened."

"Great… she won't hit me, right?"

I joked weakly—

And then—

DANGER SENSE SCREAMED.

My body moved before I even thought—but not fast enough.

THWIP—

Pain shot through my arm.

Something pierced me.

Cold.

Hollow.

Deadening.

A bullet, Quirk-destroying bullet.

My breath caught.

My knees trembled.

Overhaul—

Barely conscious—

Still managed a smile.

Twisted.

Triumphant.

Cruel.

"See that… hero…?" he rasped, blood bubbling at his lips.

"Now you're finally… just a regular human."
