LOUIS' POV
"No!"
"I don't want to die like this!"
"I also have a family!!"
My voice echoed through the empty dungeon as I lay lifeless on the floor, blood gushing uncontrollably from my body.
My fate had already been decided the minute I saw her—my girlfriend—leaving the arms of the man who was the cause of my death.
"I gave her everything!"
"I gave her everything from the day we first met till this day!"
"And she left me," I murmured, trying to hide the pain in my heart, which was greater than the pain I was feeling in my fractured skull and broken bones.
"Why are women so evil?!" I asked the empty dungeon once more.
I was really hurt. I was pained.
The only woman I knew to love, Selene, had left me for her ex. And why?!
Why?!
After a while, I chuckled slowly—not out of pain or fear that I was about to meet my end, but rather because I now realized the reason she left me.
"It's because I'm F-rank trash, isn't it?" I muttered.
"Isn't it?!"
Everyone else was stronger, flexing their skills since we were teenagers, and yet I couldn't even keep a girl.
"My sister," I asked, fear now gripping me even more, "what is going to happen to Arielle?"
I wondered. Over the last few weeks, I hadn't paid the rent, and the landlord had been requesting my sister. Now that I was gone, what was going to happen?
"I'm sorry!"
"I'm so sorry, Arielle. I couldn't even protect you."
"I've failed both you, mother, and father wherever they are."
Suddenly, the dungeon crystals above me that glimmered and had sharp edges reflecting one another began to quiver due to the noise I had been making.
"No, I don't want to die like this," I muttered, the crystal already cracking, now falling almost onto my chest.
"If only I had one more chance..."
BLACKOUT.
AUTHOR'S POV
Outside, Selene was carried in the arms of Kaien, her new boyfriend, a powerful B-rank hunter who humiliated Louis and was her former ex. Selene was a beautiful blonde with blue hair cascading down her hip and pale blue eyes, while Kaien was muscular, once an MMA fighter, now trained as a dungeon crawler.
"Hey, you two," a police officer called out as Kaien walked out of the dungeon with Selene in his arms. "Are you both okay?" he asked, glancing briefly at Selene before turning to Kaien.
"Yes," Kaien replied flatly. "I'll take her home."
"Wait." Another officer—their senior commander—commanded. He wore a cold expression, his face still dripping with droplets of water from the rain earlier. He had slick black hair and crimson eyes that seemed darker when he got closer to the dungeon.
"What is the problem, officer?" Kaien asked, his voice unshaken by the man's authoritative figure.
"Where are you taking the girl?" he asked, walking closer to Kaien, who was taller than him.
"I'm taking her home," Kaien answered, confidence unshaken.
"Who are you to her?" he asked, leaning in to take a better look at Selene, who was practically knocked out cold.
"She's my girlfriend. Is there a problem if I took her home, or are you afraid I might go beyond that..." he said, then paused, leaning in to whisper something into the officer's ear, "...officer?"
The officer shifted uneasily, a little disgusted by Kaien's words.
"I thought as much. Now stop being a nosy black dick and quit your whining. I have somewhere else to be," Kaien said, walking away with a smirk on his lips.
"Wait a minute!" another officer barked, approaching him.
Kaien stopped without turning back to acknowledge the officer. This officer was around his late 30s and had silver-colored hair.
"What is it this time?" Kaien asked, his voice darker and unwelcoming, like he could snap any moment and slice the officer's head clean.
"Are you two the only ones that survived, or are there any survivors who need help in there?" he asked, trying not to quiver between words.
Kaien hesitated for a while, remembering Louis in the dungeon...
[Flashback]
"The others are dead!" Kaien barked at Louis, who was on the floor holding a half-dead dungeon hunter in his hands.
"We can't leave them in there! The boss hasn't been beaten yet!" Louis barked back, blood smearing his clothes.
"Louis, stop whining like an a$$ and let's get out of here!" Selene broke, she was injured as well.
"Selene, watch out!" Louis screamed, using his body as a shield to prevent a massive boulder from hitting her, but unfortunately, he got pushed into a corner, bones broken, fractured, nerves unresponsive, body numb.
CoughCough
"Sel-Selene..." Louis tried calling out to her, but his throat was dry and burning.
"Help me!" Louis voiced out.
"Help you?" Kaien asked, mocking Louis' state.
"Nah, I don't think I'd wanna help a loser like you. You deserve to stay on the ground, that's where you'll ever be," Selene blurted, flicking her hair and brushing imaginary dust off her shoulders.
"Yah, baby." Kaien responded, gripping her waist and pulling her in for a deep kiss, which Selene broke.
"Fuck the fact we can't go further," she murmured, which made Louis gasp, but he couldn't move due to pain, blood, and tears peeking at each corner of his eyes.
"Don't worry, I'll give you a really good fuck when we're back home. How 'bout that?" Kaien asked, neither of them respecting the fact that Louis was right there.
"W-Wh-What?" Louis asked, his voice barely audible.
"Oh," Selene gasped, not out of shock, but out of pity.
"You didn't tell him?" Kaien asked, a wicked smirk tugging at his lips.
"It's over, Louis. I'm moving with Kaien. He's been more skillful than you from the beginning anyway," Selene said, turning to him.
"Now, if you'll excuse us, we have some fun to get to," Kaien added, already turning to leave.
Soon, they left Louis.
"Wait, Kaien, what do we tell the officers happened to Louis?" Selene asked, clutching his arms desperately.
"Simple," Kaien said flatly, an evil smirk tugging at his lips.
"We'll tell them..."
[End of Flashback]
"...We're the only survivors."
