"I don't need your help," the man refused bluntly. "I'm perfectly capable of handling him myself."
"I know you are," Danica said calmly. "But there is nothing wrong with having an extra hand, is there?"
For a moment, the line went silent.
She added deliberately, "Besides, the woman you care about will be humiliated again at a party, just like she was six years ago. If you are not there, who will stand up for her? Last time, you helped her. Don't you want to protect her again?"
At the mention of Summer, Landon's eyes lit up.
He had been waiting for the right moment to approach her again—waiting for the chance to win her heart and settle his score with Gideon. Though it felt a little earlier than he had planned, he no longer wanted to wait.
"What's your plan?" he asked.
"You don't have to do much," Danica replied. "Just attend the party with me. I'll handle everything else."
"Fine. I'm in."
Danica's lips curled into a confident smile.
