Three days later…
Holy broke into a broad smile the moment she saw Summer step inside. "Thank goodness you are back," she said warmly, pulling her into a hug.
Summer relaxed against her, the familiar comfort slowly easing the exhaustion from her body.
"Oh my…" Holy drew back, studying her face with concern. "You've lost weight. You look so pale."
"I'm alright, Mom," Summer replied softly.
"She is not," Chloe cut in immediately. "She is weak and needs to rest properly. Don't even think about going back to work. Talk to your boss."
Gideon had already approved her leave, but Summer had turned it down. This wasn't the time to slow down, not when she still had so much to do.
"Aren't you supposed to attend the seminar today?" she asked, steering the conversation away.
Chloe's face lit up. A national medical conference was being held, with top doctors from across the country in attendance. Final-year students had been granted special permission to observe the seminar.
