Chapter 31 - Battling with the curse

Aurora's POV

"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to disrupt; I had no idea," I said, taking a step back. "I should get going." I smiled faintly.

"No, it's fine; we are almost done, and you can join us," she smiled.

"Thank you." I smiled back and walked towards them.

Alzred didn't utter a word to me as he looked away, and I sensed that something wasn't right.

I moved my gaze at Alexis and saw discomfort written all over, and my doubts were cleared. Something was amiss, and Alexis knew about it.

"Is everything alright?" I forced a smile, asking.

"Yeah, sure. Everything is fine," she answered immediately. "We're just mourning our parents, you know."

"Yeah," I said faintly.

"You can also mourn with us; I mean, you lost your parents horribly too." She suggested.

"Yeah, thank you. I was about to do that." The smiles seized from my face as I darted my eyes to the ground.

Alzred's POV

I held my stomach in pain as I tried as much as I could not to make a sound. The pains were so severe that I felt like a wolf, and my body was tearing apart.

My head began to ache as I cursed Alexis in my head for inviting her over. I pierced my fingers into my hair, and with the gravity I used, they turned claws as they pierced into my skin.

Alexis, who sat beside me, began to notice my body movements as he gripped my thighs and rested her head on my shoulders as a way of comforting me.

I felt a little relief for a moment, and I placed my hands, already drenched in blood, on her hands.

Aurora was in deep thought as the memories of all the good times with her parents played in her head, including their deaths. I was calm enough to read her thoughts.

I saw the incidents clearly, like how someone shot an arrow into her father's heart. I felt how bitter I was; she was so lost to notice that I was looking at her.

My body started to vibrate again as Alexis held my hand tight.

"Alexis I can't," I whispered with shaky lips. "I feel strength living in me." I continued to speak.

She smiled softly at me. "You can show her how weak you are; this isn't the right time, remember?"

"I don't know if I can keep up." I shivered, tightening the hold.

At that moment, Aurora knew something was wrong as she darted her eyes slowly at us.

Our eyes met as I pulled out slowly as the blood from my head flowed down to my lips as I tasted them.

"Alzred," she called softly. "You're bleeding," she said as she tried to touch.

"Don't touch me!" I yelled, jumping out from where I sat, and Alexis gripped.

She startled me in disbelief as she looked at me, shocked at what just happened.

I moved my gaze immediately away from her as I walked into the forest, unsure of where I was going.

My head began to bang again as I screamed.

"He's always like this; whenever we share memories, I'll talk to him. Please continue with your memorial service; we'll be back shortly."

I heard Alexis say as she walked behind me.

"Alzred, Alzred." She tried calling my attention.

"Alexis, leave, or else I can cause harm to you and do something I might end up regretting." I warned.

She ran and stood before me with her eyes fixed on mine.

"I am your sister, your blood. The same blood runs inside of us. Your problems are mine; I will stand between you until the moon goddess does the final say." She said that and walked towards me.

"Alexis, please don't come any closer. I won't forget myself, and our parents won't forgive me if I hurt you. Please allow me to bear my consequences." I groaned.

"Alzred, you did nothing to deserve this, absolutely nothing; you just wanted to save mother and father, but since the moon goddess has refused to see the truth, then she should take us both rather than allow her servant to punish us this way." Alexis voiced out with anger in her voice.

I fell to my knees and immediately said those words. It was like the heavens chose to pay attention to her as I felt my bones reunite with the joints as my head suddenly went cold.

Alexis felt the sensation knelt before for me and wrapped her hands around me and poured out her eyes on me as I caressed her hair with my hands.

"Thank you," I managed to say, kissing her hair.

"I hope all of these stop." She sniffed.

Aurora's POV

All the memories of my parents flashed back into my head as I mourned them and promised myself to bring justice to their deaths when I felt his eyes on me.

I darted my eyes silently to face him; at least he noticed my presence at last when I saw his face bleeding.

I tried informing him about the bleeds when he flamed up. I thought I had seen him all, but I had never seen anyone in such a range. He looked like he was going to tear everything apart as he left our presence.

Already, I had a feeling something was amiss, no matter how they tried to hide it, as Alexis excused herself to meet him.

I lost concentration as my mind wondered what was really happening, and I found it hard to believe it was because of his parents.

"Was his curse related to his parents deaths?" I thought that was the only way it was going to fix the puzzle.

I suddenly began to hear screams and groans of pain as tears filled my eyes. It was making sense now; he didn't want me to see him in pain; he made me believe he had no problem and instead wanted to help me fix mine.

I stood up in anger and was about to head from where the noise was emerging when I heard Alexis voice.
