Kaive tightened his hold on her hand, his thumb brushing slowly over her knuckles. The anger that had burned in him earlier was gone, leaving only worry.
"Or what if this isn't what we think it is?" he said softly. "I feel it too. The pull, the connection. But what if it's twisted? What if it's leading us somewhere we don't expect?"
Olessia looked at him, her fingers curling around his, but he didn't pull away.
"I don't want you blaming yourself," Kaive continued. "If there's a reason you're here, we'll find the reason together. But until we're certain, I won't let you risk yourself for answers that may not be kind."
"It's high time we live now instead of waiting for the future," she said quietly.
She didn't explain further, but Kaive understood. Whatever had tied them together wasn't something she could undo or outrun. Their bond, their pull toward each other, she knew it wasn't accidental. Fighting it had only left her exhausted.
