Outside it was so hot that Erin worried that if she took a single step into the light without any protective clothing on, she would immediately turn to ash. Though that was unlikely since she was not a vampire.
Erin wholeheartedly believed it.
So she was staying in her tent where her fan was helping her stay cool. Getting as comfortable as she could on a cot, Erin dialled her friend and waited for the call to connect. She would have loved to say that she was just calling to check up for the sake of it. But the truth was that Erin was on a sleuthing mission.
Normally it was not something that she would have done. But when Haley's grandfather had called her a few days before, the old man had sounded very concerned. To put him at ease, Erin had promised to check up on Haley to see if she truly was happy with Roth, or if she was just putting up a front.
