Standing next to Sally, I watch our pack children at play. Warren has seamlessly integrated into their group, racing around like he's belonged here his entire life.
None of them treat him as an outsider or newcomer. They don't regard him with the deference reserved for an Alpha's child either. To these kids, he's simply another member of their pack family.
Seeing him laugh and sprint alongside them stirs something profound within me. Warmth spreads through my chest, making my heart expand with an emotion I can barely contain. We should escort Sally home for rest, yet I allow myself these precious extra moments of observation.
