Chapter 49 - Drakain Dynasty The System: Chapter 49: The Discipline of Fire

BOOK TWO: Chapter 49: The Discipline of Fire

### The Adult Students

As the Midday Feast concluded, the **Red (Fire Affinity)** Mages were directed toward their afternoon session. Among the group of mostly children were two **External Awakened** adults who walked together, their uniforms marked by the crimson glow of their holographic globes.

"I think I already have basic control over my core," the man said, a slight, competitive edge in his voice. He opened his palm, and a small, flickering **red flame** appeared, only to wink out as he closed his hand.

The woman walking beside him laughed softly at his attempt. "Is that all you can do?"

She opened her own palm. Her flame was visibly more steady, burning with a clear, consistent heat. With a focused mental command, she manipulated the flame, slowly shaping it into a perfect, small **spherical ball** before closing her fist and extinguishing it. She grinned at his look of genuine shock.

"Let's go to class," she replied, patting his shoulder. "I think there's more we can learn."

### The Obsidian Chamber

The group was led by **Professor Anya Sharma** to a chamber that stood in stark contrast to the bright serenity of the Light Chamber. This was the **Obsidian Chamber**: a large, perfectly dark room with walls of polished, non-reflective black stone that absorbed every photon. As the heavy door sealed behind them, the room plunged into absolute blackness.

Whispers immediately broke out among the students, a nervous murmur of curiosity and fear, replacing the adult students' brief display of confidence. "What's going on?" a small voice asked. "Where's the teacher?" another fretted. "Is this a setup for them to eat us?" a child's panicked whisper echoed.

In the absolute center of the darkness, a pair of brilliant, crimson eyes snapped open. It was **Professor Anya Sharma**.

### The Three Tiers of Flame

She stood perfectly still, her presence radiating a contained, potent heat. "Welcome, Fire Mages," her voice cut through the whispers, calm but with an underlying edge of power. "In here, we learn the language of consumption and creation."

She slowly opened her left palm. A perfect, vivid **red flame** danced above it, casting an eerie, shifting glow across her face. "This is a Tier One flame," she explained, her voice a soft, hypnotic rumble. "The basic expression of your core's power. It is controllable, predictable, and hot enough to reshape steel."

She then opened her right palm. A mesmerizing, deeper **blue flame** appeared, burning with an almost ethereal intensity. "This is a Tier Two flame. It requires advanced control, a deeper resonance with your core. It is hotter, more volatile, and far more dangerous."

With fluid grace, she brought her hands together. The red and blue flames merged, twisting and swirling until they erupted into a singular, vibrant **green flame** that pulsed with devastating heat. The light from it momentarily blinded the children.

"And *this*," she said, her voice now a low, dangerous purr, "is a Tier Three flame. This level of power is only for advanced classes. It is pure, uncontrolled fusion. For now, we are concerned with the basics of fire control. We must learn to set a blaze."

### Becoming One with the Flame

Professor Sharma then focused her gaze on a nearby stack of paper, illuminated by her green flame. Without a word, the paper ignited, burning quickly and fiercely. "That," she stated, "is a Tier One target."

Then, with a terrifying, exhilarating grin, she focused the green flame on herself. Her entire body became a living torch. Her clothes vanished, replaced by an inferno of contained fire, her form a silhouette of pure, consuming energy in the dark.

The children screamed. Panic erupted. But Professor Sharma merely laughed, a throaty, confident sound. "I see a few of you are intrigued, not scared," she observed, her fiery eyes scanning the room, picking out the wide-eyed, fascinated faces among the terrified. "We won't be a complete class until *everyone* in this room is one with the flame."

The flame on her body abruptly *vanished*, plunging the room back into absolute darkness with a sudden *whoosh* of dissipating smoke. The children's fear, momentarily forgotten, surged back. Professor Sharma stood, eyes closed, until the last wisp of smoke cleared.

She then snapped her eyes open, her crimson gaze flashing in the dark. "Today, we start with Tier One."

Her hair, which moments ago was simply dark, now seemed to twist and dance with tiny, living **red flames**. Her eyes brightened further, burning with an inner inferno. She created a vivid, baseball-sized **fireball** in her palm and sent it slamming into the obsidian floor.

### The Burning Core

Where the fireball struck, a **blue-white hologram of Earth** burst from the ground, expanding to fill the chamber. The entire class was simultaneously illuminated by individual, floating **holographic tablets** that appeared directly in front of each child.

**"Tier One Magic,"** Earth's voice resonated through the chamber, calm and authoritative, **"starts from the burning core. I, Earth, have a burning core. And you, Fire Mages, are the fastest ones on the planet to resonate with it."**

**"If you only look into your hearts,"** Earth continued, as the tablets displayed intricate diagrams of the planet's molten core, **"you will, in turn, look into the fiery abyss of the planet you stand upon. This is the key to harnessing your cores."**
