Chapter 48 - Drakain Dynasty The System: Chapter 48: The Heart of Africa and The Fire's Vow

BOOK TWO: Chapter 48: The Heart of Africa and The Fire's Vow

### Kito's Sixth Birthday

The air in the makeshift command tent was warm and thick with humidity and the sweet smell of vanilla cake. The meeting, crucial and grim, was momentarily paused for a small celebration. Outside, one of a hundred tents had been erected in a strategic location—a temporary base for the rapidly assembled army of defenders.

Inside, **Kito** was celebrating his sixth birthday.

Around the table sat the core tactical team: **Elephantus**, the ten-foot-tall Guardian; a **Light Mage** whose specialty was healing; two skilled **Air Mages**; and the group's key strategist, **Koffi**, the Fire Mage.

Koffi, a computer coder from Ghana who had earned a significant income working for a company with an apple for a logo, was the only human in Africa to have fully stabilized his Fire core. He was highly intelligent, a practiced martial artist, and a keen observer. He was the one who, during **King Leo's** horrifying broadcast, noticed that the Fire Mage wife of the Lion King became visibly exhausted after using excessive energy.

This realization sent him on a journey to the base of an active volcano—a place he used to visit with his grandfather, where the heat was so intense they could only stay for ten minutes. Now, Koffi could sit there for hours, using the relentless volcanic heat to harness and stabilize his immense Fire core.

"It just struck six," Koffi said, laughing, raising a plastic cup of juice. "And Elephantus insists that we all have some cake."

The Guardian, learning to speak through sheer force of will for his young partner, grunted out a series of rough sounds. "**Haa-pee bur-day song**, I think," Koffi translated, chuckling, and toasted the others.

He took a large bite of cake, then his expression turned serious. He gestured with a rib-stained hand toward the man standing guard outside the tent. "Today, some of us might die in battle. We all know that."

He stood up and removed the unserious, pointed birthday hat from his head. "But today is more than young Kito's birthday," he said, winking at the little boy, giving him one last moment of innocence.

Koffi frowned, turned, and stared directly at **Elephantus**.

"Today, we fight for the heart of Africa," he declared, his voice dropping all pretense of levity.

### The Fire's Vow

Koffi's entire body immediately erupted in flames. The change was instantaneous and total. The fire was clean, bright, and perfectly controlled. He flew directly up, searing a perfect, massive hole in the tent ceiling and vanishing into the sky.

The two Air Mages, the Light Mage, and Kito scrambled out of the tent. They looked toward the front of the camp, where the United Armies of Africa—a force comprised of 90% ordinary humans and 10% humans with controlled elemental cores—were assembled.

Koffi descended before the army, his blazing form steadily increasing in size until he stood a towering **twenty feet tall**. He began his speech, his voice carrying the authority of a natural disaster.

"Today we fight for the heart of Africa. If you are not a son or daughter of Africa, then this is not your fight."

He paced back and forth, the heat of his massive, living flame warming the entire encampment. "I understand why the world looks away while we suffer. I understand why history has told the stories they have told. We haven't always been good to ourselves. But today, we will save ourselves, and live on to make more mistakes—to live, and to not die. **Let's take back our land from these monstrous animals!**"

As Koffi shot into the sky, the entire army roared, their fear transformed into righteous fury. They broke rank, running as fast as they could across the Savanna toward the ever-increasing pride of humanoid lions, now only **50 kilometers** away.
