Charles's POV
I remained motionless, watching her sleep. Sandy lay curled against my chest, her breathing soft and rhythmic, completely at peace in my arms.
The blanket covered her now, but I could still feel the warmth of her skin pressed against mine. After what we had just shared, pulling away felt impossible. She had collapsed from exhaustion right after we made love, falling asleep while still connected to me. Part of me had wanted to stay buried inside her forever, to keep that perfect connection intact.
But I had forced myself to withdraw gently, letting her rest even though every instinct screamed to hold her closer. I craved more of her touch, more of her body against mine. It was the only thing that made me feel truly alive, the only proof that this wasn't some cruel dream.
I exhaled slowly, studying the peaceful rise and fall of her chest beneath the covers.
