Sandy's POV
I shifted onto my side and let out a quiet sigh. Even though our connection was severed, I could still feel him there beside me.
The warmth was undeniable. For the first time in weeks, I had awakened without that crushing dread of what horrors might be waiting for me.
My eyes fluttered open, and I found myself staring at his bare chest.
His calloused fingers traced along my cheek before he carefully tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.
I tilted my head back to meet his gaze. Charles was watching me, and something tender flickered in those dark eyes.
My pulse quickened. Without thinking, I reached out and pressed my palm against his waist, desperate to close any remaining distance between us.
A knowing smile played at the corners of his mouth. I squinted at him suspiciously. My heartbeat was doing something completely erratic.
Then the memory hit me like a freight train.
