Kevin's expression darkened as Jill's words sunk in. He shot Webster a sharp warning glare, irritation bleeding through his voice. "Keep your distance from Sallie for the next few days. Don't go chasing after her."
Kevin couldn't wrap his head around Webster's recent behavior. His brother was so fixated on Sallie that he'd completely sidelined Jill.
Couldn't Webster see how devastated Jill was after her birthday celebration got destroyed?
Webster opened his mouth to defend himself, but the icy stares from his parents and Kevin drained all fight from him. Whatever he said wouldn't matter anyway.
He gave up trying to explain. Webster dropped his gaze and spoke quietly, "You're right. I shouldn't have said something so easily misinterpreted."
Webster exhaled slowly and turned to Jill with genuine remorse. "Jill, can you forgive me?"
Relief washed over Jill as Webster returned to his usual considerate self.
