Inside the taxi, I watched Webster seethe with fury as he ran after us, only to choke on a cloud of exhaust. Todd doubled over with laughter.
His infectious joy was contagious—I found myself fighting back a grin, though I managed not to burst out laughing like he did.
When his laughter died down, I felt compelled to warn him. "That guy you just humiliated? He's the Noah family heir in Stormhaven."
I could tell Todd was hiding his real identity—he'd used my ID to set up his bank account, after all.
The Noahs ruled Stormhaven's elite circles. Provoking Webster like this wasn't exactly smart.
Todd got my drift but just shrugged. "Who gives a damn who he is? What counts is—did that feel good, Sallie?"
My hand rested on my knee, fingers curling without thinking. The way he put me first sent warmth spreading through my chest like a gentle caress.
