I dropped my gaze, hiding the chaos brewing behind my eyes.

I'd believed that once I left St. Chaim Reform Academy, nothing could touch me anymore.

But right then, terror crashed over me like a wave. What if Jill really was some inescapable nightmare? What if she'd rip away everything I cared about?

I kept my head down, darkness settling over my features. Jill lifted her chin, victory spreading across her lips.

The tension hung thick between us until Todd finally broke the silence, his voice dripping with mockery. "Cut the act already. That makeup's so thick it's practically cracking off your face. God knows how old you actually are underneath all that."

Jill's expression turned to stone, her smile freezing mid-grin.

I snapped my head up, bewilderment flickering across my face as I stared at Todd.

Nobody had seen that coming.

"You..." Jill hissed through clenched teeth, fury blazing in her eyes like she wanted to rip Todd to shreds.
