Sallie's POV
I had just ended my phone conversation with Todd when Webster appeared in my hospital room doorway. We'd originally planned to complete the artwork by tomorrow, but my unexpected hospitalization meant we'd have to push back the deadline. Obviously, I needed to let Todd know about the delay.
The moment I set down the phone, I spotted Webster stepping inside, and whatever smile had been on my face vanished instantly.
My abrupt change in demeanor made the warm smile Webster had prepared freeze uncomfortably on his face. He'd seemed to relax when he first saw me smiling, assuming I was in decent spirits. Now I watched his confidence crumble.
He hesitated briefly before moving away from the entrance, approaching with obvious uncertainty. "Sallie, I heard about your hospital admission, so I came to see how you're doing."
My voice came out ice-cold. "I'm perfectly fine. Mr. Noah doesn't need to worry."
