Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: The Most Touching Family Drama of the Year

Just as Du Mu was about to speak, a suppressed groan from Blade came through the communicator.

Immediately following that, an unfamiliar voice transmitted over the device: "Hey, you must be the Vampire Killer, right? I heard you've been hanging around with the Daywalker trying to find me?"

Du Mu raised an eyebrow: "Deacon Frost?"

"That's right, it's me."

Frost admitted it readily: "To be honest, I'm very interested in you. A mere human being able to kill so many vampires... I can give you a chance. Join us, and become one of the great vampire race!"

Du Mu chuckled merrily, "I'll have to think carefully about that. How about this: I'll come find you now, and we can sit down and talk slowly."

"Hmph!"

Frost let out a cold snort, his voice instantly turning frigid: "Since you don't treasure this opportunity, then wait patiently! The era of the vampires is about to descend. After tonight, all humans will become our slaves!"

After leaving a standard villain speech, Frost cut the communication.

Du Mu glanced at the map; the green marker representing Blade was moving quickly.

He immediately took the elevator to the floor where the marker was located.

Ding!!

The elevator stopped, and standing outside the door was a group of gun-wielding vampires.

The moment the elevator doors opened, they immediately pulled the triggers, unleashing a storm of bullets that da-da-da'd against the elevator.

However, when the doors fully opened, they found the elevator completely empty. All the bullets had missed.

"Cease fire!"

The lead vampire gave the command and signaled to the vampires next to him.

One of the vampires nodded, carefully walked into the elevator with his assault rifle, and checked the situation.

He looked around, confirmed no one was there, and turned his head to shout, "Captain, there's no—"

"Watch out behind you!"

The vampires outside the elevator widened their eyes, pointing behind their comrade.

The vampire spun around abruptly, only to see Du Mu dropping down like a phantom from the elevator ceiling, flashing a grin at him.

"Have you eaten? If not, I'll treat you to some garlic."

Before the words finished, Du Mu pulled the pin on a concentrated garlic extract grenade and shoved it straight into the vampire's mouth, then violently kicked him out of the elevator!

A yellow mist sprayed out of the vampire's mouth, instantly giving him a "flame-grilled vampire" treatment. Just add some cumin, and he'd be ready to eat.

Speaking of which, vampires are indeed a type of ingredient in the Classic of Mountains and Seas. Eating them is said to prolong life.

"It's garlic extract! Run!"

Seeing the spreading yellow mist, the vampires scattered desperately, as if they had encountered a septic tank explosion.

Seizing the opportunity, Du Mu quickly raised his gun and fired.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bullets tore through the yellow mist, accurately piercing the heads of the vampires, one after another.

When the yellow mist finally dispersed, only the lone vampire captain was left in the hallway.

Seeing Du Mu's ferocity, the captain threw down his assault rifle, clenched his fists, adopted a combat stance, and issued a challenge to Du Mu.

"Dare to put down your gun and have a man-to-man duel with me?"

"I don't dare."

Du Mu's answer was crisp and direct.

The vampire captain: "..."

Why is the script completely different from what he imagined?

Bang! Bang!

Du Mu pulled the trigger, shooting the vampire captain in both legs, then walked up and pressed the muzzle against his forehead.

"Where is Frost taking Blade?"

"You think I'd tell you?" the vampire captain sneered.

Bang!

Without a word, Du Mu shot the captain in the arm again.

"From now on, every time you don't answer my question, I'll shoot you once."

The pure silver coating on the bullet scorched the wound, causing the vampire captain immense pain.

"F*ck, you—"

Bang!

"You—"

Bang!

"I'll talk! I'll talk—"

Bang!

"I was just about to tell you! Why did you shoot me again!" The vampire captain completely broke down.

"My apologies. It's a habit."

"..."

Fearing Du Mu would shoot again, the vampire captain quickly said, "The Eternal Night Temple! They went to the Eternal Night Temple! Frost needs a live Daywalker for some kind of ritual!"

It seems Blade is not in immediate mortal danger.

Du Mu saw the green dot on the map start moving outwards, so he grabbed the vampire captain. "Do you have a car?"

"Y-yes, I do."

"Give me the car keys!"

The vampire captain's face crumpled, and he tremblingly handed over the keys to the car he had just gotten with a loan.

Am I being robbed right now?

The Eternal Night Temple was located in a remote suburban area undergoing development. A construction site could be seen from a distance.

However, a closer look revealed that the equipment was all inactive, with no sign of actual construction. It was clearly a façade used to cover up their activities.

Du Mu drove two hundred meters away from the construction site to a flat piece of land, pulled out a pair of binoculars, and observed the site.

The perimeter was surrounded by an over six-foot-tall chain-link fence, and several armed vampires were patrolling the construction site, suggesting something very important was hidden inside.

Du Mu checked the map, found Blade was deep underground, and immediately pulled out his Diamond Pickaxe and began digging into the earth.

Ten minutes later, Du Mu dug through the dirt, and the area ahead suddenly opened up.

Deep underground, a remarkably spacious subterranean chamber was hidden, appearing to be an old, long-abandoned structure.

Following Blade's location, Du Mu soon arrived at a sealed room, where a few vampires were guarding a large stone coffin.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The Golden Desert Eagle fired rapidly, and the few vampire guards instantly turned to ash.

"Ah!!"

A sharp, piercing scream suddenly came from the side.

Du Mu turned his head and realized there was a dark-skinned female vampire standing in the shadows.

Seriously, when are they going to nerf this racial advantage?

Bang!

Du Mu decisively shot her to silence her.

He walked up to the stone coffin, fumbled around, and quickly found a switch to press.

With the sound of a mechanism engaging, the stone coffin slowly opened, revealing the unconscious Blade inside.

However, his situation was dire. There were sharp blades on both inner sides of the coffin, which had deeply sliced his wrists. Blood was continuously dripping from the wounds, flowing along the grooves in the stone coffin and down below.

Without the support of the stone coffin, Blade immediately tumbled to the ground.

"Blade, wake up."

Du Mu squatted down and patted Blade's face, but there was no reaction.

From Blade's ashen complexion, it was clear he was suffering from severe blood loss.

According to Blade, although he was half-human, half-vampire, he had never consumed fresh human blood, so his self-healing ability was far less potent than a full vampire's.

If this continued, even with Blade's powerful physique, he would surely die.

Du Mu pulled out the Coin of Destiny he had just obtained from his game inventory, but after looking at Blade's face—a clear sign of an unlucky person—he put it away and took out a red potion bottle instead.

[Item: Potion of Life (Upon use, gradually restores Health over 15 seconds)]

Du Mu pinched open Blade's mouth and roughly poured the potion down his throat.

The effect was instantaneous!

The wounds on Blade's wrists began to heal at a visible speed, and his deathly pale complexion gradually regained some color. His eyelids fluttered, and he slowly opened his eyes.

Looking at the awakened Blade, Du Mu said exasperatedly, "You said we'd catch Frost together. How did you end up getting caught instead?"

"There was an accident. My mother isn't dead. It turns out she was turned into a vampire by Frost a long time ago. She became his subordinate, and she attacked me with him."

Blade's emotions were incredibly complicated at the moment.

His biological mother being resurrected should have been a happy occasion, even if she had become a vampire.

Yet, he never expected his mother to get involved with his arch-enemy, Frost!

Which meant Frost had become his stepfather, and they'd have to figure out how to address each other later.

Thinking this, Blade gritted his teeth: "I have to find her and ask her face-to-face why she did this!"

Du Mu looked at Blade with some sympathy.

A man's own mother betraying him for a stepfather, even trying to kill her own son—no one could handle that.

He patted Blade on the shoulder to offer comfort. "Where is your mother? I can help you find her."

Blade looked around, trying hard to remember: "Before I passed out, she seemed to be right next to me. Did you see a black woman when you came in?"

"..."

Du Mu glanced at the inconspicuous pile of ashes in the corner, shook his head without hesitation, and said, "Never saw her. I guess your mother must have left, but I'm sure you two will be reunited again someday."
