Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Death Knocks

On August 23rd, at approximately 9:15PM, Serif had died.

---

August 23rd, 8:00 PM.

Serif was pacing back and forth in his bedroom, disgusted with how his life had turned out. He was supposed to go to university. He was supposed to graduate and get a high paying job. He was supposed to make his hard working parents proud. That was the plan he had laid out for himself all those years back during freshmen year of high school.

He was now 22 years old, and far far away from that plan.

"FUCK!", He yelled in his room upstairs. Still living with his parents, he usually had to keep his level of noise to a minimum, but for the past week, his parents were out on vacation.

"WHY CANT I JUST FUCKING STICK TO SOMETHING!"

"I CAN'T KEEP LIVING LIKE THIS!", Serif exclaimed.

He was frustrated, disgusted, and most of all, disappointed in himself. He always knew deep down that he wanted more in life. He wanted success, recognition, money, all that good stuff. But Serif had a problem, he never stuck to anything long enough to get any results. He drowned himself in pleasures on a daily basis. He skipped workouts, ate like shit, drank a few times every week, and just browsed the web, hoping and praying for his life to change.

But hopes and prayers don't get you anywhere without work to back them up.

Serif knew he had to do something. Although an "exit" from it all was on his mind, he knew that route would lead to way too much turmoil to those around him that he would rather not do that, plus, he still wanted to see what the world had to offer. Despite all the dark thoughts that had been accumulating in his head, he knew one thing.

He needed to change.

He needed to become someone else. Someone better.

He had enough and he was ready to put his foot down and finally turn things around.

"I'm gonna stick to it this time, I'm gonna change my life for good this time, I swear", He said for the thirteenth time in his life probably.

He looked in the mirror, violently took his shirt off, and revealed a slightly chubby man with trimmed but styled dark black hair, brown eyes, and a stubble that needed to be mowed down. From his pocket, he grabbed his phone and took a picture of his body.

Immediately, thoughts plagued his mind like an artillery strike: "fat piece of shit", "tubby", "disgrace", "you can't change".

He quickly shook those thoughts off and thought for once, "You know what, I'm not gonna pay those thoughts mind".

Thinking of what he could do with his "3AM Motivation", he landed on going for a jog out in the neighborhood.

*KNOCK KNOCK*

As Serif was getting ready, he heard a knock at the door. It wasn't unusual for a knock, given that solar door to door salesmen were pretty annoying this time of year, but the thing was, it was already 8:15 at this point, way too late in the night for a salesmen to be soliciting his futile attempts at making commission on a sale.

"I guess I'll take a peek", Serif said cautiously.

Slowly he made his way down the stairs to the front door. Creeping very sneakily to not let whatever's on the other side know that he was approaching. Serif definitely did not want to straight up open the door, looking through the peephole is much better in this situation he told himself. At the peephole now, he pressed his left eye against it to take a quick glance outside.

"Huh, that's strange..."

"I don't see anything."

He literally could not see anything. Not the outside front porch, not the cars going by here and there, not even the house in front of his.

"The damn peepholes covered from the outside!", He realized.
