There stood a Sandeth.
Winston trembled in fear, knowing this was his end. So he closed his eyes… and waited for it.
Until—
The Sandeth extended its hand.
"Pleasure to meet you. I am your commander. Also, I am the leader of the Organization."
Winston was stunned—relieved, but stunned.
"Our… leader?" he asked, his voice cracking with confusion.
"Yes. Yes, I am. Though it may seem strange, I can explain. You see…"
A long time ago, I lived in the Abyss. It was awful and bleak. It stretched infinitely in every direction. The eternal realm. There was nobody around for millions of light-years. And I couldn't die. Our kind is extremely sensitive to cold temperatures, therefore our backbones froze in the void—so I just sat there. In the cold darkness. For trillions upon trillions of years, unable to move… I just sat there.
Until I saw a light. A gate. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. My escape from that hell. But what I saw through the gate… shocked me. My kind was terrorizing the poor creatures that lived there.
I understood their anger. I had wisdom beyond any other being in the universe—trillions of years spent thinking and questioning my existence. I saw how horrible pain truly was. And I could not bear to wish it upon anyone else.
So I helped the humans fight. I betrayed my kind for my beliefs. Even though I was one of the younger ones—yes, most others had been trapped even longer than I—I fought for humanity.
No creature should ever feel the pain I felt. That's why I created the Organization.
Any questions?
Winston stood there, still trying to process all the information.
Then he spoke.
"Yes… Yes, the fuck I do."
