Chapter 25 - The Price of Silence

Serloth dragged Brolin's brother out of the mansion by his collar.

The man struggled...

Kicked...

Screamed...

But Serloth never loosened his grip.

He threw him onto the ground...

Right in front of the entire crowd.

Everyone stood frozen.

Watching.

Waiting.

Serloth looked down at him.

"I don't want to give you a slow death..."

"...like the one my wife suffered."

"I want you to die..."

"Right here."

"Right now."

"But..."

"I do want you to feel..."

"The same pain..."

"...that Aby felt."

Without another word...

Serloth lit the fire.

The flames slowly surrounded the cage.

At first...

Brolin's brother screamed.

He begged.

He cried.

He pleaded for mercy.

"PLEASE!"

"SOMEONE HELP ME!"

"PLEASE!"

His voice echoed through the entire town.

But no one moved.

Not a single soul.

The fire continued to rise.

The screams slowly became weaker.

His body began trembling uncontrollably.

Eventually...

He realized...

No one was coming.

No one would save him.

The screaming stopped.

The begging stopped.

Only silence remained.

A few moments later...

The flames consumed everything.

Nothing was left...

Except ashes.

The crowd stared at what had just happened.

Then...

Someone whispered,

"It's over..."

Another smiled.

"We're finally free..."

Soon...

The whispers became cheers.

"We're saved!"

"We finally have our town back!"

"King Serloth will lead us!"

"We'll become the peaceful town we once were!"

For the first time in years...

People smiled.

Some even cried tears of relief.

They believed...

Their nightmare had ended.

But then...

A voice echoed across the town.

Cold.

Emotionless.

"So..."

"You all think..."

"It's over?"

The cheering stopped instantly.

Everyone turned.

Serloth slowly lifted his head.

Blood still dripped from his wounds.

His body could barely stand.

Yet...

The hatred inside his eyes...

Was stronger than ever.

"It is over..."

"...for today."

"But tomorrow..."

"This town..."

"Will change forever."

Nobody understood what he meant.

Serloth suddenly collapsed.

His body finally gave in.

Hours later...

As night fell...

He opened his eyes once again.

The townspeople gathered around him.

Waiting.

Hoping.

Serloth slowly stood up.

"You people..."

"Should consider yourselves lucky."

"Aby..."

"Didn't want me..."

"To become a monster."

"Because if she hadn't made me promise..."

"I would've enjoyed killing every single one of you."

"I would've watched you burn."

"I would've listened to every scream..."

"Every cry for mercy..."

"And I would've smiled."

The crowd froze.

Fear spread across every face.

One man tried to speak.

"My Ki—"

"Silence."

Serloth's voice alone shut him down.

"You..."

"Will never interrupt me again."

"Not in this town."

"If anyone dares..."

"They will die."

The silence became unbearable.

Then Serloth looked across the entire town.

His voice became calm.

Almost terrifyingly calm.

"When my wife..."

"Was trapped inside that cage..."

"Covered in filth..."

"Starving..."

"Begging for water..."

"Begging for food..."

"Carrying my child..."

"Every single one of you..."

"Watched."

"And none of you moved."

"I begged."

"She begged."

"Our unborn child..."

"Paid the price."

"So from this day forward..."

"You will all remember her."

"Every."

"Single."

"Day."

He raised his hand toward the sky.

"From tomorrow..."

"Days..."

"Will become nights."

"And nights..."

"Will become days."

"No one..."

"Will ever be allowed outside during the morning."

"If anyone breaks that law..."

"They will be sentenced..."

"To death."

"But not by my hands."

"I promised Aby..."

"I would never become the monster again."

"So..."

"The Bulls..."

"And the cages..."

"Will decide your fate."

He looked one final time at the people before him.

"And from this moment..."

"This place..."

"Will no longer be known as Leaf Town."

"It will be remembered..."

"As..."

"Bulltown."

No one dared to object.

No one dared to speak.

Because on that night...

The King they had hoped for...

Disappeared forever.

And in his place...

A legend...

And a monster...

Were born.
