Chapter 27 - The Perfect Town

From the mountains...

A lone man watched Conrad leave Bulltown.

He had been watching from afar this entire time.

The moment he saw Conrad safely leave the town...

He turned around.

And began walking in the opposite direction.

Toward...

Chinatown.

Yes.

It was none other than...

Tom.

A normal day in Chinatown.

Subways rushed through the city.

People hurried to work.

Children laughed on their way to school.

Markets were packed.

Small local shops stood beside huge modern buildings.

The streets were full of life.

Everything looked...

Normal.

Actually...

Better than normal.

It was clean.

Beautiful.

Busy.

Crowded.

Yet somehow...

Everyone looked genuinely happy.

Not fake smiles.

Real ones.

Tom couldn't understand it.

"This..."

"...is Chinatown?"

He had expected something terrifying.

Instead...

It looked like Greenware.

Just...

A much better version.

"So why does everyone make such a big deal out of this place?"

For the next few days...

Tom explored the city.

He watched movies.

Visited water parks.

Tried going on a few dates.

None of them worked out.

But...

At least he tried.

He even found a place to stay.

For free.

One of Chinatown's rules was simple.

Anyone who entered the town...

Could live there free of charge.

(You might wonder...

"Then why isn't this the most crowded place in the world?"

The answer was simple.

To reach Chinatown...

You first had to survive Bulltown...

Or Lovetown.

Very few people ever made it this far.)

Days passed peacefully.

Tom smiled.

"This place feels..."

"Perfect."

"But..."

"I'm not here to live comfortably."

"I have something to prove."

He looked toward the horizon.

"Conrad..."

"I'll prove to you..."

"That I'm not a traitor."

"I'm still your buddy."

"My best buddy."

With renewed determination...

Tom packed his things.

And walked toward the exit gate.

His destination...

Lovetown.

Just as he was about to leave...

He heard a weak voice behind him.

"Sir..."

"Please..."

"Help this land..."

"Please make our soil pure again..."

Tom stopped.

He slowly turned around.

An old woman...

Wrapped in torn clothes...

Was sitting on the roadside.

She looked incredibly weak.

Her hands trembled.

Her face was covered with wrinkles.

Tom immediately rushed toward her.

"Granny!"

"What are you doing here?"

"You don't have to live like this."

"This town lets everyone stay for free."

"You can eat."

"You can sleep in a proper place."

"Come on."

"Let me help you."

The old woman smiled gently.

"Oh..."

"What a kind boy."

"But..."

"You don't understand."

"No one here believes me anymore."

"They all think..."

"I'm just an old fool."

Tom looked at her quietly.

She continued.

"I'm one hundred and five years old."

"For eighty years..."

"I've been trying to tell everyone the truth."

"But nobody listens."

"They all think this land is perfect."

"But it isn't."

Her eyes slowly filled with tears.

"I'm the only soul left..."

"Who still remembers."

"And now..."

"You're the first unfamiliar face I've seen..."

"Since that incident."

"I know..."

"You don't belong here."

"And I know..."

"You're leaving this town."

She slowly reached for Tom's hand.

"So tell me..."

"Will you help me?"

"Will you help this town..."

"And make our land..."

"Pure once again?"
