Chapter 20 - Lots of questions for old friends

Muggle Studies, the subject Harry had been looking forward to so much, didn't start until the end of the week, and until then, he couldn't meet Kara...

Four faculties were studying this subject at the same time, and there was exactly one quarter of the students from each faculty. The rest, who were not present at Muggle Studies, were in other classes. So Barry and Ron were currently with Professor Trelawney, in clairvoyance, while he and Hermione were here, sitting at the same desk for the first time in three years, and it didn't matter that behind them were two Slytherins, Draco and Blaze, and in front of them were two Ravenclaws, Caitlin and Felicity.

"Good afternoon, everyone," Professor Danvers stepped forward. She was the only teacher wearing Muggle clothes, which made her stand out even more. She waved her hand and began to write her name on the board. "My name is Cara Denvers, but you can just call me Professor Denvers. Since this is our first class, I suggest we start by getting to know each other. But first, I want to share something with you.

Several stacks of textbooks came out from under the table and were neatly placed on each desk in front of the students. They were ordinary eighth-grade history textbooks, ordinary Muggle textbooks.

"I want you to have a general idea of what we'll be studying. This book is just for reference; we won't be studying it in its entirety.

Suddenly there was a loud bang, as if something had fallen to the floor. "Harry" turned around and saw Draco smirking as he kicked the unfortunate book. The boy also noticed the teacher's reaction; she was just smiling with the corners of her lips.

"If you're not interested, sir, you may leave the classroom," the woman said calmly. "Just remember that it will be worse for you."

"Can I ask one question?" asked Draco. "Why should I, a wizard by birth, have to study the history of some Muggles I have no intention of ever meeting?

 "What is your name?"

 "Malfoy. Draco Malfoy.

"Well, Mr Malfoy. I'm probably not going to tell you anything you don't already know, but... You live on the same planet, and as much as you don't want to admit it, wizards and Muggles have been living side by side for centuries, even millennia. You can't claim that you won't interact with Muggles when you're currently studying alongside Muggle-borns. School is a microcosm of life, a preparation for reality, and when you leave here and enter the real world, you need to know everything about it.

Draco responded with a contemptuous snort and turned away demonstratively.

 "Well, shall we get acquainted?

The children began to introduce themselves one by one and tell a little about themselves. The Slytherins mostly snorted contemptuously, but they introduced themselves nonetheless. When it was Harry's turn, he learned that Felicity Smook had come from Ilvermorny, where she had been the best student, and the headmaster had decided to send her to Hogwarts to raise her student status. When it was Harry's turn, he told everyone everything they already knew about him. The only moment when Kara's eyes lit up strangely was when he mentioned that he was currently living with the Allen family. No one noticed this except Barry Allen himself, who was forced to be in Harry Potter's body and was glad that he now had another person from his world, even though Kara was not exactly from Earth-1, but that didn't matter anymore.

When the introductions were over, the lesson began. Muggle Studies was indeed a special class, not only because it was the only non-magical class, but also because it felt like you were in a normal Muggle school. Even the classroom looked like a normal classroom where high school students studied. And the students wrote their notes not with quill pens, but with ordinary ballpoint pens.

When the class ended, "Harry" decided to stay a little longer to make sure that it was indeed Kara.

He approached the woman sitting at the table, who was writing something; judging by the appearance, it was a letter. When she finished, Kara rolled it up and sent it to an owl that had been sitting nearby, waiting for a delivery. The girl turned her gaze to "Harry" and smiled modestly.

"I'm sorry," she whispered. "I couldn't find any other way to get here..."

"Is that something to be upset about?" the boy shrugged. "On the contrary, I'm glad you're here."

One glance was enough for them to understand everything, and the former friends embraced. Kara's embrace was still strong, which meant she hadn't lost her abilities.

"Damn, I have so many questions!" Barry exhaled.

"You have no idea, I do too," Kara smiled.

They were sitting in a small office that was also at Kara's disposal. In any case, Harry no longer had any classes, so he could spend his free time as he pleased.

"When I arrived on this planet," Kara began her story after Barry finished his. "I immediately went looking for my doppelganger. As it turned out, everything was fine in this universe with Krypton, the planet was alive, which meant that Kal-El and Kara Zor-El had no reason to flee to Earth. Yes, I immediately realised that everything would be different here, that all my friends from my home Earth would be much younger than me. When I found Alex, it turned out she was only four years old! In short, it really is a different Earth, which is both impressive and frightening at the same time...

"Yes, I was also scared at first when I realised that I would most likely be alone," Barry shrugged. "And then I met my double, and off we went... As it turned out, Burrow Allen knew Lily Potter, they even studied together, although only for a year, because Burrow was much older than Lily..."

 "Wow," Kara exclaimed.

"What about our home?" Barry tilted his head slightly to one side. "You said your Earth-38 was destroyed, but what made you leave Earth-1 and come here?"

"Earth-1 is fine. As for why I left... I needed a change of scenery. In the two years since the Crisis, a lot has changed. The world was acting like it always had, but the superheroes were in a real crisis... Many wanted peace, even though the world still needed protection. Some stayed, but most left anyway...

"How's Iris?" Barry asked suddenly. He really wanted to know how his wife and daughter were doing...

"She distanced herself, as much as possible. As far as I know, she moved to a small American town, works for the local newspaper and is raising her daughter..."

Barry exhaled relaxed — Iris was alive, so there was no need to worry anymore. True, she was probably devastated after losing her husband, and that saddened him. When he was done with all this mess with Harry Potter, he would definitely find a way out and return to Iris, in his own body.

"Wait, how did you find this Earth, can you tell me?" Barry suddenly frowned.

"Oh, it's a very interesting story, actually... After the ritual, I immediately went looking for ways to get to this Earth. With the help of Cisco and Win, I found this Earth. They are the only ones who know what really happened to you, by the way. Cisco even wanted to come with me, but certain events made him change his mind. And then, with the help of his technology and Constantine's magic, I was given magic," Kara showed a small scar on the back of her neck, disguised as a mole. "So I can do magic.

"And you learned to speak with a British accent, right?" Barry grinned.

The girl just shrugged in response. They chatted like this until almost evening, when Barry's stepbrother arrived and Kara remembered that she actually had a job. In a way, Harry even felt sorry for her. She had worked as a reporter her whole life, and now she was a teacher... Although she didn't seem to mind her profession.

"What, have you become such good friends with the professor that you're already having tea with her?" laughed his doppelganger.

"Professor Denvers is a wonderful woman," Harry shrugged. "She's easy to talk to, and it was very easy to find common ground with her. Try it yourself sometime, I don't think she'd mind.

"Well, if I get the chance, I'll definitely try... Especially since good grades never hurt.

The boys laughed and then headed cheerfully to the Gryffindor common room.
