Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 15

The monster shook them off, and they both got slammed into the tree, but they managed to wound the creature.

Yuri tapped into her Soulborn ability, weaving the fabric of reality itself to conjure a striking illusion. With a flick of her wrist, she created a vivid hallucination of a shadowy figure leaping from the tree branches. The monster, momentarily entranced and distracted, turned its gaze toward the unexpected specter, giving Uri the split second she needed to gather her wits and plan her next move. Rin and Sam used a moment to stab the monster.

With a fierce determination, Yuri leaped into the fray, landing directly on the monster's already savage wound, driving the creature into a frenzy of pain and making the injury even more severe.

Yuri shouted, "Now!"

With a fierce determination, Rin and Sam surged forward, their battered bodies fueled by a surge of adrenaline. In one swift motion, they lunged at the monstrous foe, their weapons piercing through its flesh with an intensity born of desperation. With a final, agonizing roar, the creature collapsed, defeated at last under their relentless assault.

Rin and Sam could feel the surging solus of the monster coursing through them, a mixture of triumph and unease. Yuri broke the silence, her voice steady despite the adrenaline still pumping through their veins. "Alright, let's prepare our feast. We'll butcher the monster and pack the leftover meat into bags. Once we're done, we need to find a safe spot to rest before the holes begin to appear."The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows as they worked. The next day dawned, and a sense of exhaustion weighed heavily on the three of them. They had battled fiercely, taking down six grade 3 monsters and two grade 2 monsters. Each breath they drew was labored, the thrill of victory mingling with the fatigue of their triumph.

Rin spoke, "Still not awakened."

Just as Sam opened his mouth to respond, a surge of energy coursed through him, threatening to break him apart from the inside. It was as if Solus, a powerful force, had surged through his very soul, igniting a strength he never knew he possessed. In that moment, Sam transformed, awakening as a true hunter, ready to embrace the challenges ahead.

Rin's heart raced as the shocking revelation coursed through the air, leaving an electrifying tension hanging between them. Sam's face lit up with an uncontainable joy as he proclaimed, "I am awakened!" The words hung in the air like a promise of adventure, and he could hardly keep still, eyes gleaming with anticipation. His fingers tightened around the hilt of his dagger, the metal glinting ominously in the light. "But I have no idea how to wield this thing. How do I use it?" He was both eager and apprehensive, the weight of his newfound abilities pressing down on him. Yuri, folding his arms with a solemn expression, gestured emphatically as he signed, "You need to possess Animus to see its ability." Sam frowned in confusion, tilting his head. "What exactly is Animus?" The term was unfamiliar, a missing piece in the puzzle of his awakening. Yuri's face darkened, his features etched with disbelief. "Seriously? Did you even pay attention in class?" The frustration was palpable, as if he couldn't fathom how someone could overlook such a crucial aspect of their training. With a playful grin, Sam shrugged off the criticism. "Hey, I might not be the best at studying, but I can sure hold my own in a fight!" His bravado was a shield against the doubts creeping into his mind, but deep down, he felt the weight of uncertainty mingling with his excitement.

Yuri took a deep breath and began to recount a tale steeped in ancient history. "Let's go back to a time when the gods walked among us, a time when their reign came to an end, and we, the humans, emerged. For ages, dragons ruled our lands, enslaving us and shrouding our destinies in darkness. But we, resilient as we are, discovered a way to transcend our limits and unlock powers that rivaled the gods themselves. The key to this transformation lay with a remarkable figure—the great hero, the first of the Soulborn. He unveiled a method known as Animus, a link to the legendary Tree of Solus. This tree was said to be a remnant of the gods, containing the essence of every ability and fragment of knowledge we possessed. It offered a promise: through Animus, we could grasp our true potential. Yet, as time passed, the ability to harness Animus slipped from our grasp. In their desperation, our ancestors turned to powerful rings imbued with ancient Solus magic to reconnect with the Tree. But this, too, proved fleeting. As the echoes of ancient magic faded, the secrets to crafting those rings became lost to time. It was then that the rulers of IDEL sought a new path. They forged alliances with the Technos, who birthed a revolutionary technology: a way to implant a magic stone crafted from techno artisans into one's very soul. This stone worked wonders, analyzing the core of our being and displaying our abilities on a screen akin to a phone. You may wonder, how could a mere stone delve so deeply into the essence of a person? The truth is, our souls are alive, filled with thoughts and desires—they are our inner selves, waiting to be understood."
