Chapter 2 - Sneaky Sneaky

Axel sat tapping in fingers in a rhythm, thinking over the information he had just learned.

First, the masked man was part of the Emperor's Coven, basically the government. The Emperor being the dictator of this whole place.

The masked man was most likely a scout; that scout was looking for wild witches. Wild witches being witches who don't belong to a coven.

Covens being witch clubs that restrict witches from using different types of magic, this is because the Emperor was told by the Titan to do so. The Titan being their god, or at least as far as Axel knows.

The currency this place was snails, the same coins Axel lifted off the scout earlier. Though now that he knew the scout was a witch, he didn't feel so bad.

'Seems I'm in a place that hasn't been touched by Gods light.'

Also, don't forget, that everyone who has ears, have pointed ears, and it was known that rounded ears were a sign of a human.

With a sigh, Axel ignored all the currently irrelevant information and thought about his current situation.

This devil created place cannot be allowed to interact with Earth. But, before Axel could do anything, he needed food and shelter.

So next, Axel needed some more snails, crime didn't seem like it would be the best idea.

With magic stuff all around Axel couldn't be too sure what would happen if he tried to steal something and it was magically boobytrapped.

To Axel, the best thing to do was to get some sort of job. The problem was that he couldn't tell any witches his name, after all if a witch knew his name, he could be cursed.

He could give them a fake name, but before all of this he was going to a summer camp, meaning his current wardrobe wasn't exactly job hiring material.

However, there is a job that freely gives room and board, it has free meals, the pay was good, and it had a good position to protect the Earth. The bad news? The job was working for the Emperor's Coven.

Usually, from what Axel had found, you needed to have a good grad average, survive treacherous activities like surviving a while in the wilderness, and magic more powerful than your peers.

However, such measures to stop ordinary people from getting in was no use in front of Axel's need to protect Earth, so he devised a way to get in.

He had the times that the transport would arrive to shuttle the scouts to the castle where the Emperor's Coven stayed, so all he had to do was step on and not be noticed. It helped that Axel was much taller than other kids his age.

There wasn't any ID on the scout, so Axel doubted that there were any checks.

To fit in, he needed the right costume. The costume needed were the same clothes that the scout that Axel bumped into was wearing.

The only place that Axel could find to get a costume like that was an outpost, and looking outside he could see it was just about dinner.

Tugging at the loose-fitting clothes, Axel worried that the looseness of the clothes would give away their unfamiliarity to him.

But to convince the Emperor's Coven, any doubt had to be crushed. A new stage was upon him, and he couldn't just act like a scout, he had to be one.

A navy-blue demon of some sort held several scouts. The demon was shaped like a longship; with six legs and yellow wings it kept itself up with the weight of several scouts on top of it.

Axel quickly stepped on to the demon along with the rest of the scouts.

After all, why wouldn't he step on? He was a scout.

'Calm and steady, put on the same act as you did at church'

At the front of the longship sat a scout, much larger than all the others who stood on the ship. They were not holding on to anything however, not a steering wheel, not a lever

Whether the demon they stood on already knew where to go, or if the scout of front steered it in some way was unknown to Axel.

Without so much as a warning the ship began to rise into the air, startling a few of the scouts, including Axel.

"Wait!" a scout on the ground yelled.

Bellow the flying ship was a scout running towards it. Though the scout who seemed to be in control of the ship made no attempt to turn around or slow down.

It was understandable, a schedule is a schedule, and if Axel had learned anything about dictatorships it was that everything always ran on time.

And if something didn't? Then make it so everyone who saw something run off time is either dead or too scared to speak.

Another reason why Axel couldn't let this world and Earth interact.

The ride to the castle was mostly silent, there were a few people talking about the jobs they did for the day, though many others stayed silent.

That worked well for Axel. While he could come up with a story on what he did today, it may overlap with something that another scout has already done.

Arriving at the castle, it loomed large over all the scouts. The castle stood on a stone platform that seemed to have been lifter from the ground below. The castle walls stood only a few feet from the edge of the platform.

The castles smooth exterior and perfectly square base showed how much care went into its constriction.

Surrounding the castle were rocky hill, with hexagonal outposts stationed on top. Overhead was curled rock, as if the castle was inside a ribcage. But that would be ridiculous.

'I'm surprised that something that curved hasn't fallen. What is it made off? It looks natural'

As they got closer and closer to the ground, the chatter among the scouts began to become lesser and lesser, from an inside voice to a whisper, and as they touched ground, silence.

The side of the demon opened up, allowing the scouts to get off.

First off was the large scout who was at the front of the ship, and after that the other scouts followed in suit.

They began to make single filed line. Axel made sure that he was third to last, not too far ahead, and not last.

With measured steps, the scouts marched into the castle.

Inside the castle, the floor was the same gray as the outside walls, but it was covered with a green carpet with yellow sides covered it up.

The walls were a darkish yellow, a large stripe of gold near the floor. And, no matter where Axel looked, the symbol of the Emperor's Coven loomed large above him.

Eventually they reached a large open room, with someone standing near the far edge of it.

She wore the same coat as a scout, but the beak of her mask was much pointier, as well instead of the scout clothes, she wore a long black dress.
