Chapter 5 - Yes They did Say Hunt

"So," the scout said munching food under his mask, "How many wild witches have you caught?" they asked.

"None, they always give me the slip," Axel replied, taking a sip of ice water.

They were both siting outside of a small cafe, they had to talk a bit loud to hear each other over the small crowd around the corner. Apparently, it was a weekend.

"Ha!" the scout laughed, "I've caught one, got injured pretty badly but the payout was worth it," they said proudly.

"Oh really, must have been a large payout," Axel commented.

"Yeah it was," the scout boasted, "That money got my family a nice vacation too," they reminisced.

As they talked, a hungry kid walked by. She then looked to the two scouts, which got her noticed by both.

After noticing the witch child, both scouts turned to look at each other.

"So, what's your hocus focus," Axel asked the scout.

"We can't just ignore her," the scout replied.

"I can, can you?" Axel replied.

'A God-fearing man such as myself had much more value than a Godless Witch'

"Give me a second," the scout in front of Axel said while getting up.

The scout took a chunk of their food and walked up to the young witch.

"Here, eat and grow up to help the Emperor's Coven," the scout said handing over the piece of food.

The young witch said nothing, she just smiled, grabbed the food, and left.

"I think that's the most official you've sounded today," Axel commented.

"Well, you know," the scout started, "A good scout always helps, while serving the coven with a smile underneath their mask," they quoted, "An old show I liked to watch said that," the scout explained.

"I bet it was an interesting show," Axel commented, "Now if we're both done, let's go get some wild witches," Axel said getting up from his chair.

"There's something I agree with!" the scout replied putting his hands on the table.

"I've been hunting these wild witches for a while, watch me," the scout boasted.

"You've only caught one though, right?" Axel asked.

"Yep! Now watch this," he answered, walking towards a witch.

The scout calmly walked towards a green-eyed witch who was buying fruit from a stand. She was wearing a long sleeve shirt with a coat overtop.

"Oh, hello there," the witch said while picking up what looked like an orange, "How can I help you today?" she asked.

"GIVE ME YOUR WRIST!"

"Huh!" the witch blurted out, bumfuzzled.

"Your wrist!" he exclaimed pointing at the woman.

"Ok! Ok!" the woman responded rolling up her sleeve, "Could have just asked normally," she mumbled.

On her wrist was a brown fist with a crack diagonally across it.

"Well alright then," the scout replied.

The scout then walked back to Axel with some pep in his step.

"I think that was going a bit over the top," Axel told the scout.

"You don't get it, now any wild witches are going to try and run away," the scout explained, "And then we catch them," they said.

"I'm going to talk to her," Axel told the scout, "Excuse me!" he called out to the witch while walking towards her.

"Yes?" the woman responded, annoyed.

"Very sorry about my friend here, I just wanted to ask something," Axel said to the witch.

"Why of course, what do you need," the woman responded putting on a smile.

"It's a hot day outside," Axel said looking at the witch, "Too hot to wear long sleeves, so why are you wearing them?" Axel asked.

"Well, you see," the woman began to explain.

"May I see your coven sigil again? Axel asked.

"Why of course!" she said rolling up her sleeve once more, "See I'm,"

Axel then took his finger and touched the coven sigil. And with physical contact, the illusion magic faded.

Axel looked at the witch, wondering if she was going to surrender or fight back.

The woman looked back and him, wondering when Axel would notice that his feet were now tied together with vines.

"See you later!" the woman said pushing Axel back.

Axel fell back, failing to balance himself due to the vines, landing backwards and hitting his head.

"Covenless witch!" Axel called out, pointing at the witch.

As soon as the scout accompanying Axel heard his words, he jumped into action, summoning a fire spell and shooting it at the woman.

She dogged and began to run into a crowd.

Loosening himself from the vines, Axel hopped up and began chasing the witch along with the other coven scout.

Catching up to the other coven scout, Axel saw them standing still.

"What are you doing?" Axel asked the scout running next to them.

"They ran into the crowd and dropped their coat," the scout replied holding up their cloak, "Can't find them," they explained.

"Give me a second," Axel replied.

He squinted his eyes and looked out into the crowd.

There were kids licking their ice cream cone, which sometime licked back, there were odd living things of all types, and there was a witch with long sleeves.

'There you are'

"Long sleeves, buying something from the cart," Axel called out.

"I see her," the coven scout replied.

They both began to make their way down to where the woman was.

Unfortunately, the woman quickly realized that her running didn't work out.

"Oy my gosh!" she yelled out, "The coven scouts are giving out signatures?" she yelled pointing at the two scouts chasing her.

Suddenly, several witches and demons from the crowd went up to the two scouts. Most wanting the two to sign varus parts of their body. Like, chest, head, arm, and horns.

"We are in pursuit, please move out of the way," the second scout announced, trying to move them out of the way.

"Move or you will be branded covenless!" Axel threatened.

The threat was successful in moving the crowd out of the way, letting the two scouts continue to chase the wild witch.

"A bit harsh don't you think?" the other scout asked.

"No I don't," Axel responded not giving the other scout a glance.

They continued chase the witch, down a street with several stores, through an ally with some purple stuff, then the witch stopped and turned around.

"Weren't there two of you?" she asked, a smile on her face.

Axel then looked around him.

'Dang it, where'd they go?'

He was alone, facing the wild witch. It didn't take a genius to know that Axel wasn't in the best situation. His loss was inevitable, and the best action was to run away, and get someone with magic to fight the witch.

And yet, something told him he could, something told him he had to fight the witch and win. It was pride.

He, a warrior of God, could not run from this demonic magic user.

Axel stood his ground and charged at the witch, but a purple goop that was on the floor rose up and formed into a person-like shape much taller than Axel.

Using the height advantage, the purple goop man picked up Axel by the arms. After lifting him up.

Axel tried to shake free, but it was no use. In the middle of the purple goop monster a hole appeared.

The witch then drew a circle in the air, and a large blast came out of the circle. Slamming into Axel and pushing him through the hole.

He went flying back, hitting the ground once, before vines came from the ground and slammed him into the ground again.

Axel groaned, laying on the ground, holding his stomach.

'Stupid, pagan, witch'

Then everything went dark.
