Bonnie's expression crumbled like a house of cards in the wind.
She clearly hadn't anticipated Elias would demolish her facade so ruthlessly. The color drained from her face, leaving her looking like a ghost haunting the sterile hospital room.
Every fiber of my being screamed to launch myself at Elias and claim his lips in the most passionate kiss of my life.
"Elias, don't you think you're being a bit harsh?" she stammered, her laugh brittle as autumn leaves. "Your girlfriend obviously isn't ready to stand at your level yet. She needs work, refinement, growth. Everything I've done has been to help her become worthy of you. Because I care about your happiness."
"Stop hiding behind concern for me when you're really just trying to destroy her," he replied, his voice cutting through her excuses like a blade through silk. "You're not her guardian. You're not even pack. You're simply my friend, Bonnie. That gives you no authority to treat her like this."
