Chapter 4 - Busy

"Busy"

Her rejection was countered with his next statement, making her stop in her tracks before she could hang up on him.

"Father misses you." He revealed, knowing full well how she would respond when it came to his father.

The people in the room watched in awe as a brilliant smile formed on her lips, replacing her earlier frown.

They had seen her smirk, roll her eyes and even seen that seductive smile she had shot the youngest man.

Yet this smile was something different entirely, something they had not seen from her until now.

It was a genuine smile that brightened her eyes and the room, proving how she truly felt towards this man's father.

"I'll pick you up." He reminded and before she could come back to her senses and refuse, he hung up without a moment's hesitation.

The phone in her hand displayed that the call had been disconnected and realizing that he had the last word in this conversation, Demi clicked her tongue and her dislike towards him increased by another notch.

After all, every interaction she had with him always tended to leave a bad taste in her mouth and this time was no different.

Tossing her phone aside, she glanced at the guards and the woman being held in their grasp.

'Now back to the matter at hand...' She let out a sigh as she sat up straight.

The intruder's earlier smug smile had now been replaced by a look of confusion after witnessing the conversation that had taken place.

However, Demi had no intentions of clearing the doubts in this woman's mind as she continued maintaining eye contact with her.

"If you really want your 'Brother' all to yourself..." She began and observed how her eyes brightened at the very mention of this 'Brother'.

These words finally shifted everyone's attention away from her and onto the intruder.

"Then ask him to break this engagement off." She stated and smiled sweetly at her opponent, tilting her head sideways.

Anyone else acting this way would have appeared cute, however, not a single person in the room would associate that word with how Demi looked right now.

After all, no one in their right mind would look at those cold eyes and mistake her to be cute no matter how adorable her smile was.

Not caring about what others thought of her, Demi picked up a glass of liquor she found on the table and gulped it in one go.

Placing the now empty glass on the table, her previous smile vanished as she fixed her now stern gaze back on that woman.

"Until then... Don't even think about appearing before me." She ordered and her gaze landed on Lenny who stood next to the group of bodyguards.

As though he understood what she had meant, he bowed to her one more time before signaling to his men from the corner of his eye.

Not another word was uttered as all of the guards also bowed in her direction before they dragged the other woman out of the room.

In this way, the once crowded room quickly regained its peace as the guards left with the woman, leaving behind Lenny who stuck around.

"Please summon me if you ever need my assistance." He reminded her and saw her nod in acceptance.

Demi never had an issue with this man so she did not make things difficult for him and hence accepted his offer without much thought.

His gaze fell on her one last time before he scanned his surroundings and in the next second, he too rushed out of the room to catch up with his men.

Demi found that last look to be odd but was not given too much time to mull over what it meant when a question came from her side.

"You really are engaged?"

This question came from the youngest man sitting to her right.

Ignoring the question being asked, Jamie abruptly stood up and began pacing around the room as he muttered to himself.

"Will you stop that?" Demi scoffed at the anxious man but that only made him increase his pace.

Noticing that he had no intention of listening to her, Demi chose to ignore him this time and turned her attention to the youngest sitting next to her.

Thus she found that his eyes were fixed on her left hand, specifically on the enormous green emerald adorning her ring finger.

"So that really is an engagement ring..." Devon muttered to himself but the silent room made it possible for everyone to listen in.

Jamie had stopped pacing by now and his gaze too landed on the emerald on her finger with a complicated look in his eyes.

Not just him but the rest of the men too had turned their attention towards that sparkling ring which appeared both heavy and expensive.

Their minds went back to a couple of years ago when she had initially started wearing this eye-catching ring.

She had just come back from a week-long family vacation and when she returned, this ring had accompanied her.

Devon was the first to notice the stunning right on her finger and did not think much about it, praising that it suited her complexion and the green gemstone matched her eyes.

Initially, they had just assumed that it was another piece of jewelry that had caught her eye during her vacation.

However, when they noticed that she continued to wear it every single day, a strange doubt crept into their minds.

Once again, it was Devon who had voiced out his curiosity regarding the origin of the ring which everyone had shared but never brought it up to not seem nosy.

However, with Devon, the youngest and most willful of their group, bringing it up, they had no reason to hide their interest in this conversation as they too gathered around her to hear what she had to say.

Now, the same group of men tried to recall how she had responded to that question in the past.
