Chapter 7 - Jamie On The Side

"Got something to say?" Demi raised her brow when she turned towards the source of that loud scoff from.

Jamie, who had scoffed at her earlier, was just about to huff out his reply when his phone rang in the quiet room, interrupting what he was about to say.

Since he was standing at a distance away from where they sat, Demi and the rest could not hear what was being said after he had answered the call.

However, watching how his expressions worsened with each passing second, they were sure that it wasn't anything good.

Jamie was unable to utter a single word from beginning to the end and only seemed to be at the receiving end of whatever was being said.

It was not long before the call was disconnected and the first thing he did was glare at Demi before letting out a little curse under his breath.

"I think we've had enough fun for today!" He announced and without giving anyone the time to react, he stepped forward and pulled Demi up to her feet.

Having drunk quite a lot of liquor earlier tonight, the young woman stumbled at his abrupt actions but before she could fall, Jamie strengthened his hold over her wrist and pulled her into his arms.

Realizing that he had used too much force, he quickly loosened his grip on her wrist and instead, grabbed her by the waist and hoisted her into the air.

The rest of the group only watched in silence as Jamie carried Demi towards the door without giving her a chance to object.

Initially, Demi planned on struggling against his willful behavior but soon felt light-headed thanks to his sudden movements and the liquor that was beginning to take effect.

Therefore, she chose to settle down, allowing him to stride out of the room with her in his arms.

The group had witnessed similar scenes way too many times in the past to show any signs of surprise after what had just taken place.

They were already used to seeing the two of them behave this way and hence did not think that there was anything wrong with their behavior.

They only came back to their senses when they realized that they had been left behind and rushed out of the room to catch up with them.

"Was Jamie aware that she was really engaged?" One of the men whispered to himself as they followed the pair.

If it had been in the past, they would not have bothered about how close the two were as the proximity between Jamie and Demi indicated that they were comfortable in each other's presence.

After all, they were aware of the fact that the two were childhood best friends who had grown up together and had known each other for ages.

However, just tonight they had learned about the presence of a fiance in Demi's life so despite the fact that the fiance was with another woman, they were still worried about Jamie who they believed had secret feelings for her.

They were concerned that Jamie, the best friend who was always by her side, would be heartbroken if he too had been kept in the dark about the engagement.

Thus, with complicated thoughts running through their minds, the remaining four men followed the pair in silence.

As they made their way through the crowd, these men attracted a lot of attention but did not shy away from the numerous eyes fixed on them.

Instead, they smiled, waved and some even winked at the pretty ladies who blushed and giggled upon seeing them.

After exiting the club, they found a large eight-seater van parked outside and knew that the two best friends were already seated inside.

Without wasting any more time, the rest began entering the vehicle one after another, not bothered about the small crowd forming at the entrance of the club.

"If Mr Fiance can have a woman on the side then Demi can surely have Jamie on the side!" The last man to enter muttered to himself before shutting the door, blocking the view of the crowd watching them.

The van drove away once everyone was seated, unaware of the fact that their pictures had been taken by the crowd and very soon they would be on the top of the most trending searches online.

However, ignorant of this matter, the group in the van was making its journey back to the place they called home.

Demi had fallen asleep during their journey so Jamie had to carry her to her room once they reached their destination while the rest planned to continue their celebrations for the night.

Inside a dark room, a man stared at the important contract papers now scattered on the table.

A week ago, he had come to this city for a new business deal which had still been in its initial phase of negotiation.

It had taken him and his potential business partner all week to settle on terms that were profitable for both parties and a contract had also been created.

His partner had already signed the document and it was now his turn to do so.

Tonight, he had planned to give it another read before putting his official sign of approval on it.

However, fate had other plans as those same papers were now ruined, making that contract unusable.

Earlier, just as he had finished reading and was about to sign the contract in his office, he had received a text which had distracted his attention.

Usually, he would not have looked at his phone but for some reason, he felt compelled to do so and was glad that he had chosen to listen to his gut.

Having read the text, he wasted no time to take action and call his subordinate with instructions on what needed to be done.

He had just planned on following up on that text but he witnessed a certain scene which made the air around him drop by many degrees.

Before he could even realize the changes around him, the pen in his hand had cracked, splattering ink all over his hand and the contract papers.

His week's hard work had been ruined yet his attention was fixed on the scene unraveling on the computer screen as he pushed the ruined papers aside.

Earlier, his mind had been occupied by what had taken place but now that the screen had gone dim, his eyes returned to the ruined contract as he let out a sigh.

Thanks to that little outburst of his, his work had increased and now he could only return home after another couple of days at most.

Not dwelling too much on what had already taken place, he discarded the contract and sent a message to his assistant with orders to have a new one prepared.

Though confused, the assistant got right to work without questioning what was going through his boss's mind.

While he waited for his assistant to return, the man leaned into his chair and closed his cold blue eyes to get some rest.

However, he was not given a chance to do so as his phone began to ring in the next minute.

"I've spoken to him, Brother. He'll be careful next time." The voice, coming from the other end after he answered the call, revealed that the task given to this person had been completed.

"Good. Let's meet when I return." He suggested and spoke a few more words before disconnecting the call.

Once again reclining in his chair, he put the phone into his pocket and shut his eyes.

"So troublesome!" He grumbled to himself when he thought of the woman and the troubles that came along with her everywhere she went.
