Chapter 10 - The Model

Livestream chat:

— "If this is really happening… then all we can do is place our hope in her."

— "Furina, I believe in you. Don't let us down."

— "Fufu, I don't want to die… please, find the real killer. I'm begging you… sob…"

With no way to change or escape the situation, people could only accept it—and choose to believe.

After South Korea's Chosen One failed their trial, another blood-red message appeared in the app's global announcement bar:

[Randomly selecting a new Chosen One to enter the World of Sin…]

The moment it appeared, tension gripped every nation. It felt as if their lives were dangling from the strings of some unseen puppeteer.

If a seasoned detective was chosen, there was hope. But if it was someone unstable—or worse, completely unqualified—then all they could do was wait for death.

But for China's citizens, the fate of their nation's models rested solely in Furina's hands.

They watched her stream with bated breath, hanging on her every move.

 In the livestream:

Furina was still casually questioning the victim's roommate when a familiar mechanical chime echoed in her mind.

Ding! You've gained 1 Faith Point.

Ding! You've gained 1 Faith Point.

Ding! Congratulations! You've reached 100 Faith Points. Unlocking your ability interface…

A translucent blue panel appeared before her eyes—visible only to her.

It was simple in design, with rows and columns of abilities. Only one was currently active: Deduction. The rest remained grayed out, each labeled with the Faith Points and case completions required to unlock them.

With Deduction now active, the fog in Furina's mind began to lift.

She tried to suppress her excitement, but the corners of her lips curled upward.

A cheerful chibi version of herself popped up beside her.

"Yay~ Finally!!"

"I was running out of things to ask! Thank the stars this came just in time—what a lifesaver!"

"Wait… was it that last question I asked? Did the netizens really believe in me because of that?"

(She glanced smugly at Chen Lin, who was still scribbling in her notebook.)

Chen Lin frowned slightly.

"What kind of questions are these…? Favorite food? Really?"

"You didn't even ask for the victim's name…"

"Well… maybe the Captain has her reasons."

She jotted down the last line, then looked up at Furina, who was clearly basking in her own brilliance.

"Captain, should we call the coroner now?"

"Mm. Go ahead. I'll take another look at the victim's room. I feel like I missed something important."

Furina muted the Faith Point notifications on her panel.

Then she glanced at the top-left corner—and froze.

"What the—?! In just a few seconds I've gained… one, two… tens of thousands of Faith Points?!"

"If I solve this case, I'll unlock the next ability for sure."

"Let's do this."

Her virtual avatar merged back into her, and with renewed confidence, Furina strode elegantly toward the victim's bedroom once more.
