Chapter 46 - Your Kaiju Are Too Small:-Chapter 46: Giant of Light

The two Jaegers moved fast across the high-pressure seabed. Soon they reached Earth's deepest point—the Mariana Trench.

Temperature and oxygen levels here were brutally low. Almost no marine life existed.

"There."

"The Breach." Herc Hansen's voice was quiet.

The Jaegers leaped off the seabed. Ahead, crimson light pulsed like an undersea volcano—the Breach.

Not a real volcano. The wormhole below radiated light that made it look active.

"No Kaiju blocking us."

"Maybe... they're all waiting on the other side." Herc reported to Command. "We're going in."

They carried the barely-alive Mutavore and leaped toward the Breach.

The crimson wormhole blazed bright.

As they descended, energy surged from within. Arc-like currents swept between them.

The wormhole detected Mutavore in their grasp. It expanded instantly, as if welcoming them.

Two Jaegers and one Kaiju vanished from the seabed. Vanished from Earth.

Inside the Shatterdome Command Center, all personnel watched the life-sign monitors. The moment the signals flatlined, every face went rigid. Tension spread through the room like a wave.

"Godspeed," Marshal Stacker murmured.

Maybe he should be on that seabed right now.

Maybe he should be inside Striker Eureka's Conn-Pod.

Maybe he should be the spark that ignites the nuke.

He... they might already be dead.

But death won't chase them anymore.

Because a light pulled them back from their fated journey across the river.

Through the Breach.

A crimson space filled with strange energy unfolded before them. Purple structures jutted like stone. Countless unfinished Kaiju formed rings around each building. Energy lightning crackled throughout.

The interior of some dead planet—oppressive and chaotic.

A hollowed-out world transformed by the Precursors into a colony. A crimson vortex on one side radiated light like a sun, illuminating everything.

Countless Kaiju factories. Countless Precursor structures. Standing throughout this vast, boundless space.

"They actually came."

The moment the two Jaegers passed through the Breach, masses of Precursors emerged from the buildings.

Strict hierarchies. Each Archbishop-level Precursor commanded countless followers.

They watched the two Jaegers descending into their world, calm in the knowledge that everything was proceeding as planned.

No surprises. These foolish humans had walked right into the trap.

"ROOOAR!"

"ROOOAR!"

"ROOOAR!"

Countless beasts roared in unison. They stood upon structures throughout the space like an orderly army.

Knifehead. Trespasser. Onibaba. Virus. Otachi. Every Kaiju breed that had ever appeared on Earth had corresponding individuals here—dense masses of them.

Among them, giant beasts with massive wings circled in midair.

They'd been waiting a long time.

The earth-shaking roars brought death-like pressure. The moment these Jaegers landed, they'd be overwhelmed. Devoured.

"Shit!"

"How are there so many!?" Herc's scalp crawled at the sight.

"No time. We detonate now."

He couldn't worry about anything else. Before these Kaiju overwhelmed them, they had to activate the nuke—even without time to evacuate.

He couldn't imagine the despair humanity would face if all these Kaiju flooded Earth.

"Human toys always have flaws."

The Archbishop-level Precursor standing before Yoki watched Striker Eureka activating the nuke. Contempt dripped from his words.

The next second—

"ROOOAR!"

Several Leatherbacks launched EMP attacks at the descending Jaegers. Surging arcs rippled outward in waves.

"Damn it!"

"We were almost there!" The EMP struck. With no leverage in midair, neither Jaeger escaped. The Hansens watched their systems die and slammed fists against the control panels.

Then—

"SCREEEEE!"

Swarms of Kaiju beat their wings and surged toward the Jaegers like locusts, ready to tear them apart in midair.

Throughout the space, countless Precursors watched, ready to savor the low creatures' suffering.

But—

Just as the Kaiju surged forward, just as the Hansens despaired, a thunderous sound exploded through the crimson space.

From inside the one-armed Jaeger, blinding light burst forth—shaped like a cross, like a ring.

No one could understand what was happening.

But the next second—

"BOOOOOOM—!!!"

Backlit by the crimson vortex, they could only see countless Kaiju surrounding the light—dark silhouettes against the glow.

Suddenly the first wave of Kaiju exploded as if detonated by invisible energy.

Amid sky-filling firelight, a giant light wheel with razor-sharp serrations cut through the monsters.

Wherever it grazed flesh, organs and blood erupted.

Countless Kaiju fragments fell from the sky like rain. The scene was spectacular.

After clearing the nearest Kaiju, the light wheel—incomprehensible to the Precursors—tore into more distant monsters in midair.

Then it descended further into the Kaiju masses on the structures below. Wherever it passed, buildings collapsed. Corpses littered the ground.

"What... what is that?"

"The Giant... the one that killed Leatherback?"

"What kind of power is this!?"

Throughout the space, Kaiju caught by the light wheel wailed. Their pitiful cries contrasted sharply with their earlier roars.

This wheel radiating white light—why couldn't a single Kaiju stop it?

Under the Precursors' incomprehensible gazes, layers of Kaiju corpses fell.

And the architect of this carnage finally revealed himself.

Backlit by the crimson vortex, they could only see a shadow—a slender red-and-silver form, a circular crystal glowing blue.

Eyes... brighter than the sun itself.

The Giant hovered at the center of the entire space. His divine gaze held no mercy.

Like a god about to deliver judgment.
