Pacific Ocean floor, inside the Breach.

Vast crimson space resembling world's core. Purple structures in various forms filled every corner. Wide rings connected to each structure; scale-like formations on rings were all kaiju not yet finished being manufactured.

This entire space perfectly fit people's definition of alien environment.

Alien lifeforms humans called Precursors stood on purple steps, gazing at those kaiju about to be completed.

Precursors stood less than four meters tall. Heads massive and squid-like. Bodies and limbs looked thin and long. Two pairs of arms were purple with attached wing membranes, making them somewhat resemble bats. Like environment here, appearance was no different from ugly aliens in human imagination.

They were invaders—more precisely, culprits who'd plunged Earth into apocalypse: Precursors.

"Identity this mission assigned us is actually Precursor." One Precursor stood at cliff's edge, looking up at Breach leading to Earth's world, emitting sounds only they could understand.

Beside it stood another Precursor, bone-formed crest slightly smaller.

"Disgusting." Smaller-crested Precursor looked at its four arms, wing membranes still bearing some mucus, tone full of distaste.

Though it was Precursor, movements and tone expressed dissatisfaction with this body—as if soul within didn't belong to Precursor.

"What's disgusting about it?" Larger-crested Precursor's attitude completely opposite.

"As long as this identity helps us complete mission, that's all that matters."

"In Pacific Rim world, Precursor identity is more advantageous for our operations. After all, we know this world's future trajectory." Tone full of confidence.

"My suggestion was approved by Precursor Council. They've already dispatched Category IV kaiju to Earth."

"Really?" Smaller-crested Precursor's eyes squeezed together, somewhat puzzled. "Why dispatch Category IV kaiju now?"

"Didn't they just send Category IV kaiju to attack Sydney?"

"Idiot." Larger-crested Precursor glanced at him. "With your intelligence, how did you even reach Tier-3 Traveler status?"

Other didn't respond.

Just looked at him with clear yet stupid eyes, seemingly awaiting explanation.

Seeing this, he fell silent for several seconds before finally sighing.

What kind of pig teammates did I get matched with?

Feeling rather exhausted, explained: "Kaiju at Sydney has already attracted most of humanity's attention. Dispatching kaiju now to kill this world's protagonist—no one will be able to react in time. Understand?"

"According to normal timeline, Raleigh Becket hasn't rejoined yet, and Marshal Stacker Pentecost hasn't begun executing plan."

"As long as we kill both of them before everything happens, their entire plan becomes void."

"World's entire trajectory will completely change."

"When this world completely deviates from destined track and heads toward its end, we'll gain opportunity to steal massive amounts of Space-Time Source Energy." As he spoke, folded four arms behind him. From silhouette alone, could tell he was master schemer.

After hearing explanation, smaller-crested Precursor's eyes lit up immediately.

"You're genius!"

"Now we can rest easy!"

With those words, two exchanged smile.

They weren't Precursors—weren't even from this universe.

They came from special universe, were called Travelers. Duty was to go to different worlds, change those worlds' fates, thereby steal something called Space-Time Source Energy.

These two were veterans who'd changed different worlds' destinies multiple times. This plan should have succeeded perfectly as well.

But what they never expected was that this time, world where they were executing mission had been infiltrated by cosmic police officer specifically responsible for resolving space-time anomalies.

Hunter—coming specifically for them!

Western Pacific.

Pan Pacific Defense Corps Hong Kong Shatterdome Base—also last Shatterdome base that hadn't been abandoned.

This was where Jaegers docked, where humanity's hope-kindling was stored.

Massive numbers of Jaeger pilots, reserve pilots, mechanics, guards, communications officers, technicians... countless professionals lived together inside this enormous base, working together to find way to defeat apocalypse.

They'd lost UN funding, could only rely on Marshal Stacker's old connections to pull in some private sponsorships. Kaiju grew stronger day by day, yet their treatment worsened day by day.

No one believed Wall of Life could stop kaiju. Sydney's example had already proven that point. After kaiju broke through Wall of Life, Jaegers still had to clean up mess.

Now, half-built Wall of Life at Sitka had also been breached, making Wall of Life plan look even more laughable.

But at this moment, they had no time to mock Wall of Life plan.

Their backbone—Marshal Stacker—was in danger. Everyone in entire base had hearts in throats.

"Marshal! How's your situation!?"

"Marshal! Answer me!" Tendo Choi, Chief Technical Advisor of Jaeger Tech Division, stood before command platform, gripping microphone. Looking at data displayed on semi-transparent panel before him, shouted anxiously.

"We detected unprecedented high-energy reaction at your location. What the hell happened on site!?"

"Damn it, communications cut out!"

"They... they..." Facing severed communications, Tendo felt deep sense of powerlessness. Expression collapsed, throat grew hoarse, couldn't get out second half of sentence.

Helicopter Marshal had boarded lost all signal. This already indicated one thing.

They... very likely had already perished.

"No, Marshal wouldn't sacrifice himself easily. He... he's man who can pilot Jaeger solo." Beside him, technician was unwilling to believe this reality. Shook head, still believing Marshal Stacker was alive.

As he spoke, seemed to remember something. Suddenly looked up at Tendo, said, "It might be EMP attack. Right! They might have been hit by EMP, which is why they lost all signal!"

"EMP?"

"Kaiju can evolve organs that release EMP attacks?" Tendo's first reaction upon hearing this was that it was absurd.

By conventional logic, EMP attacks only occurred in high-tech warfare.

Kaiju were obviously biological creatures. How could they possibly release EMP attacks?

Wait!

Kaiju themselves already violated conventional logic, and what we're truly facing is actually group of aliens. Kaiju are just their weapons!

It's possible!

"You're right!" Tendo seemed to grasp at lifeline, eyes brightening.

Fingers operated rapidly on console, dialing certain number.

He remembered Marshal Stacker often carried small EMP-resistant phone on him.

Soon, call connected.

All technicians in entire operations room breathed sigh of relief.

"Thank God!" Tendo's first words after call connected were these.

Then urgently asked, "Marshal, how's your situation?"

Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon would still take while to reach scene. He knew Marshal Stacker's side was fighting alone, situation extremely dangerous.

"My side..." Marshal Stacker's voice still carried deep disbelief, words broken and halting.

He didn't know what kind of language to use to describe what was happening before him.

But looking at that giant emerging from light—

Only one word could form in his mind to describe that giant.

"I see... hope."
