"This kaiju can actually release an EMP attack!?" Inside helicopter, Marshal Stacker stared at completely dead instruments, then looked through cabin door at distant kaiju, disbelief in voice.

"Shit!"

"Everyone off—prepare to evacuate!" Watching kaiju trample over Wall of Life's rubble and close in on them, he made swift judgment, ordered pilot and guards inside aircraft to disembark immediately.

They hurried out of cabin.

Armed soldiers escorted Marshal Stacker as they retreated into distance.

"Follow me, Raleigh!" At same time, Marshal didn't forget to call out to objective of his trip.

He silently prayed this kaiju's target wasn't few of them.

Jaeger support for this area would still take time to arrive. Until then, could only rely on themselves to hold out.

"Natsu! Come on!" Raleigh had originally planned to evacuate with Marshal Stacker, but when he turned back and saw Natsuki hadn't moved, shouted.

Natsuki heard his voice.

But still showed no intention of leaving.

Instead, said something that left Raleigh unable to process.

"This kaiju... isn't just for show, is it?"

Natsuki narrowed eyes, looking at rubble beneath Knifehead's feet, staring at destruction caused by its movement, speaking tentatively.

Kaiju had made quite commotion breaking through water's surface.

But after coming ashore, each action hadn't caused much indentation in ground.

In Natsuki's understanding, this kaiju—visually estimated at over eighty meters tall—should weigh at least fifty thousand tons. Yet pressure its movement exerted on ground clearly didn't match that figure.

Weight seemed to be less than ten thousand tons.

This was strange.

Were kaiju of this universe completely different concept from kaiju he'd encountered before?

"Stop spacing out, Natsu!"

"Run!"

Behind him, Raleigh's anxious shout pulled at his thoughts.

"We can't outrun it from this distance."

"Whether this thing's for show or not, I can only stop it here."

Natsuki didn't turn around. Instead, focused intently on massive kaiju ahead that possessed both gorilla and turtle characteristics.

Watched it crouch down, muscles writhing beneath pitch-black skin as it closed in on them.

He spoke: "Though observing bit longer would yield more information, sacrificing most of these people to obtain that information clearly isn't worth it."

"You all evacuate first. I'll buy you as much time as I can."

Natsuki gripped black bangle on right wrist with left hand, expression serious, decision already made.

Though he usually liked to slack off and treated work with casual attitude, when lives truly hung in balance, didn't forget justice in his heart.

Of course, this justice was justice as he defined it—unbound justice.

"What!?"

"Are you actually insane!?" Raleigh couldn't believe this guy could say something like that after seeing kaiju.

Right now, there were no Jaegers, no large-scale heavy weapons. What was this guy going to use to fight kaiju?

He couldn't imagine how person could possibly confront kaiju with flesh and blood alone.

As expected—this guy was lunatic!

"Thud... thud-thud... thud-thud-thud!"

Knifehead's speed increased. Arms and hind legs crawled across ground. Massive range of motion made movements look like slow motion, but actual speed already exceeded imagination. Heavy trampling sounds rang out clearly.

Snow on ground scattered layer by layer under impact of trampling. Snowflakes filled sky. Knifehead crossed Wall of Life construction site, was about to reach them.

"It's coming—damn it, run with me!" Raleigh reached out directly to grab Natsuki's arm. Pulled hard, only to find other man didn't budge an inch.

"Raleigh!" Marshal Stacker had already run some distance. Seeing Raleigh still in place, shouted anxiously.

"BOOM!"

Knifehead's forearm slammed into ground. Violent tremors accompanied by massive sound arrived. Entire kaiju leaped high, opened gaping maw, lunged at Raleigh in pouncing posture.

Black shadow blocked out sky. Kaiju's massive body fell like mountain!

Raleigh's pupils reflected details of kaiju's body. In this moment, he once again smelled death.

But at same time—

"Mission start."

With those words, Natsuki looked at kaiju above, suddenly thrust right fist toward sky, as if to block descending kaiju with that single fist.

Blinding light instantly erupted from his body.

Powerful energy gathered into white pillar of light that shot skyward!

"BOOM!"

Kaiju, not yet landed, was struck head-on by this pillar of light. Falling momentum stopped completely—was even sent flying in opposite direction!

"SPLASH!"

Knifehead was directly blown away by this impact, fell back into waters of Gulf of Alaska with massive sound.

Huge body rolled beneath water's surface. Waves flew!

Then—

Both Raleigh and Marshal Stacker witnessed scene they would never forget for rest of their lives.

Giant emerged from light, right arm raised high, standing upon earth like deity walking out of myth!

Giant stood over fifty meters tall. Body primarily silver, looking like hard steel. Red lines adorned this form, adding aesthetic beauty while symbolizing life and vitality.

Eyes bright, limbs long and graceful. Faint, almost imperceptible smile played at corners of mouth. Blue circular crystal embedded in chest.

Powerful. Orderly. These were words that involuntarily sprang into their minds upon seeing this form.

If only one word could describe this giant, it would be—hope.

Giant who brought them hope in moment of despair!

"My God...!" Raleigh's mouth fell open. Stared at giant's back before him, eyes filled with incredulity of having worldview shattered.

Lunatic he'd rescued from snow was actually alien!

And could transform into giant over fifty meters tall!

Had world gone mad, or had he!?

Kaiju disaster in this world wasn't natural occurrence—was premeditated attack.

From 2013 to present twelve years, Pan Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC)—formed by multiple nations—had gained certain degree of understanding about kaiju. Recently, they'd learned kaiju were biological weapons dispatched to Earth by aliens.

Those aliens were called Precursors.

Humanity didn't know whether they came from other planets in this universe or from another dimension. Only knew Precursors had established wormhole passage at bottom of Pacific Ocean—the Breach—that couldn't be destroyed by conventional means.

Precursors transported kaiju from Breach at Pacific's floor to Earth, launching attacks on human cities, killing countless people.

This war between Precursors and humanity had been waging for twelve years, showed signs of escalating even further.
