Chapter 3 - The “Safe Haven”

There was a long wooden table with no chairs spanning the length of the first room with what looked like hundreds of blood in vials and tubes on top of it. There were two other doorways in front of where Vex was standing and behind where he was standing too. The two men stood at the end of the table while the two women were on the right and left side of the table leaning against the wall as Draven was.

Finally Draven spoke, breaking the silence, "You two, try and get along, yeah?"

"Hmph…" Vex just made a sound in response

Tellen, still stunned at the fact that they were teleported, which has now been around a minute since that happened, finally spoke, "U-um where are we?"

"In…" Draven hesitated whether or not to keep it a secret or tell them. After a couple seconds he decided to tell them, "In a world… between earth and earth."

Dax spoke, "What?"

Tellen and I also looked confused

The woman on the right side of the wall spoke, "It's… complicated. Also I don't think we should've told a godrat. We're gonna have to kill em now, great going Draven."

A vein pops out of my arm while clenching my fist tight enough to break steel. And on the edge of snapping when I heard her call him a godrat, "I'll kill you, chump."

Dax looked at Vex with a blank expression then back at the woman trying to think of a way to not escalate this any further. "Hey, hey, let's not escalate this, yeah? Calm down you two."

"She called you a godrat. What is there to be so calm about?"

"It's fine, if I saw a blessed I'd say the exact same thing to them."

I grunt slightly before backing off. Dax looks at Draven and asks, "Why'd you bring us here?"

"I can't just let you guys die out there ya know. You're just children."

"Ok but what now, huh?"

"You pull your weight."

"As in?"

"Kill every godrat we see."

"I'm a blessed, why not kill me?"

"Because a real blessed wouldn't have been helping a group of 3 others kill off their own gang."

"Three…? But there's only Vex and Tellen… Wait! How do you know about…"

"I mean his corpse was right there just sitting against the wall dude, who wouldn't notice that."

"Marren…"

"Marren, nice name. At least he died a warrior, yeah? Sacrificing yourself in battle is better than rotting away from natural causes or whatever, well at least my opinion…"

Draven almost looked as if he was thinking of something

"Something on your mind?"

"Just reminded me of how my… my parents… died… saved me from the godrats… they made a deal you know, that if the godrats killed my parents I'd get to live. My parents agreed, they were killed right in front of me."

No visible tears are in Draven's eyes yet he sniffles around every once in a while, while talking about how his parents were killed.

"And they… they… those horrible chumps made me watch as they…as they… as they killed them. And of course, right after they didn't keep their word and tried to kill me too. I managed to escape by booking it when they looked away but once I did escape I was living in constant fear that I would one day get killed like my mom and dad did… Then one day around a month after I got so… just so mad I… I have no clue as to what happened still to this day but… all my eyes saw was red, then blue. Flames almost, veins almost about to burst, my skin almost changed colors and something, almost like… a rift? Yeah, a rift appeared. I didn't touch it, but I slept, ate, drank, and did everything next to it for the next few days. Then I finally got the courage to touch it after a week. When I did it didn't feel like anything physically, but mentally it felt like depression, anger, regret… It was surreal to me that touching something that felt like nothing made me feel something. Feel. With almost no other option I stepped in and that's how I got here…"

The three went quiet, pretty much stunned and speechless. Dax turning from confused to shocked, Tellen from still being stunned at the teleportation to feeling sympathy, and Vex who would like it better if he had remained nonchalant but he too raised his eyebrows slightly shocked.

Vex spoke, "…that doesn't explain what a place that is between earth and earth means."

"Think about it like this. The only way to hide a place from the blessed? Well it's to hide it from reality. How do you hide something that could exist anywhere? Cast it out to the space between. Alright, you still look confused." Draven said

Vex responded calmly, "No, I think I get it. No, I do get it."

After a while Vex spoke, "What now?"

Draven said, "Well for now you can meet the others."

Tellen said with a little hope in her voice, "Others?"

"Yup, we've got others just like you guys here, eh… refugees if you will."

Vex said, "We are not refugees, I didn't come here by choice."

"Alright, alright, whatever. Arguing with you is pointless anyway."

As all 3 of us walk towards the other room whilst saying nothing

Breaking the silence, Vex speaks, "I don't trust that guy, same with the other 4. Even if he and the others are unblessed or if he rescued us whatever."

Dax talks, "I agree to be frank. A man cannot earn my trust, my true trust that easily."

As they walk they see a room with one woman in bed with a blanket over her reading a book and a man fast asleep in another bed.

The woman seemed about Vex's age while the man appeared to be a bit younger.

The man was blond with such a white skin color he almost seemed pale. He was wearing a blue tunic and still had one brown colored boot on his foot, the blanket was all messed up and so were the bed sheets, you could infer he was a messy sleeper.

The woman had fading purple eyes, a little darker than peach skin, looked about 5'7 with long white hair, white baggy Chinese mao pants that have dust and are a bit dirty, a normal black shirt along with a white cloak filled with stitches and also seemed as if it hadn't been washed in a week which made little sense if you compared the clothes to her skin. Her fingers lifted a page of the book and flipped it, as the page landed on the left side of the book, however, she noticed the three. She shifted her gaze from the book to them.

Dax interrupted the silence between them, "Those 5 wanted us to meet you two."

She responded, "Well that messy bum is Yashko, I'm Ashen."

She answered as if she never lost her cool in her whole 17 years of living.

"Are we… staying here from now on?" Tellen asked.

"Better than out there, and you'll get used to those 5 hooligans as well. And no matter how much I hate them at times I won't truly despise them because they cared enough to save me and that bum. I'd also assume you three are not blessed?"

I answered lying about Dax "Yes… there are only two beds in here, yet you said we're sleeping here?"

"Yeah, just ask Draven, he'll get a room prepped for ya in a minute or two, for all three of ya."

I walk back down the hallway towards where Draven was, after around 3 seconds Dax and Tellen start following me too. I eventually find him and ask, "That Ashen girl said we're spending the night, that true?"

"Ehh… you can spend your entire lives here if you want to be honest."

I answered quicker than I intended, "No."

"I figured you'd say that, but go towards that hall and…"

He explained the directions and gestured with his finger and arm where to go. All 3 of us ran into Ashen there.

"Do me a favor will ya, I don't wanna sleep next to that chump anymore. Will one of ya sleep with him and I'll take your place in the new room?

"Sure, I could… The only thing that could bother me is loud snoring…"

"Thanks… uh, what's your name?"

Tellen answered, "I'm Tellen, that's Vex, and that's Dax."

She put her right hand on her hip, "It's nice to meet ya, now let's get going, yeah?"

She walks towards the new room and opens the door revealing an empty wooden room with nothing but three nightstands next to the beds and two lights on top of the room with a metal lever that seems rusty that triggers them to turn off and on. "Better than sleeping on hay." Vex said

"Agreed." Tellen responded as she opened the door where the Boy was still a sleeping mess. The 2 rooms were close to each other, only across from each other in fact. Ashen falls onto the bed and pulls the blanket on top of her and lets out an exhale before dozing off to sleep.

Vex and Dax on the other hand had a little trouble sleeping for the first hour of laying down, mostly just day dreaming and staring at the ceiling wondering if they could trust Draven and the others. Eventually though, they went to sleep too.
