I went to my office and found my boss already there and after greeting him,I started my work as usual.
"Hey Ava, how are you?" He asked me.
"Well I'm okay thanks for asking," I kept typing on the laptop.
"Okay that's good to know,how about Herman, your husband??" He asked me.
"He is fine but why are you so interested in him nowadays??"I asked him.
"Nothing much,I'm just casually asking no big deal," he told me.
"Okay then," I went back to my work.
"Did you leave him at home or he went to work??" he asked.
"I left him at home,any other question??" I lifted my eyes and looked at him.
"Oh okay,no that's all," he went back to his work.
He was acting weird but I had no time to go about it because I already have a lot on my mind.
"Today I'm going out for lunch,would you like to join me??" he asked me.
"Actually yes I would love to," I closed my laptop immediately and got my bag.
"Woah!!! You're really hungry haha!!! I'm surprised that you agreed that fast to come with me," he was really shocked.
"You know I can still stay back and eat from here if you no longer want me to tag along," I sat back in my chair.
"No Ava that's not what I meant,I thought you were going to turn down my offer haha…but I'm happy you said yes so let's leave right away because I'm also starving," he closed his laptop and we stepped out of the office.
We went to a restaurant just five blocks from our office and he was the one driving,when we reached the parking lot,he pulled over but when we were about to step out of the car,I couldn't believe what my eyes saw!!!!.
"Wait, is that Herman?!!!?" Boss asked me and that's the same thing I was wondering.
"Ava, have you seen who just walked inside that restaurant??" He passed his hand in front of my face because I wasn't moving or blinking.
I had frozen because Herman was holding some girl's waist and not just a girl but one of the girls that met us in the restaurant yesterday and were flirting with him.
"Ava, that was Herman, I'm a hundred percent sure," the boss said again.
"Yah that's right,I also saw him but why was he holding the waist of that girl!!??" I passed my hand through my hair in frustration.
"Ava I'm not in position to answer any question about your husband but you need to find out some things on your own," he replied.
"What do you mean?? Do you know anything??" I furiously asked him.
"Ava please calm down,like I said,I'm not in position to tell you all this but one thing you need to know is that you're living in lies," he replied.
"What the heck are you trying to say??" I asked him.
"Okay it's clear that your husband is cheating because there's no other explanation to back up why he was holding that girl's waist right?" He asked me.
"Yah that's right because he can't fool me that she is a sister yet we know they're only two with his kid brother but worst of all,I know that girl because we met her with her other friends yesterday at the restaurant when we were out for dinner," tears started touching my cheeks.
"Did your husband tell you his relationship with them??" He asked.
"Yeah, he said they're his colleagues at work," I replied.
"Ohh okay,can I ask you something?" He uttered.
"Now what are you going to ask??" My head was already spinning.
"Do you know where he works from?? Like do you know his workplace??" he asked me.
"Huh!!?? Okay,I don't know the exact place but at least I know that he has a job because he leaves for work everyday," I looked at the restaurant door where they walked through.
"Are you sure he has a decent day job?? I want you to be sure and not just assume things," he told me.
"What are you driving at?? If you know anything please spit it already," I scolded him.
"Like I said earlier,I'm not in a position to bring you out of the dark but it's the same reason why I have been asking about him recently," he leaned back in his seat.
"So how the hell do you expect me to know the staff when you who knows something is just here keeping quiet!?? Just tell me what you know if you want to help," I punched the door out of anger.
"Ava you need to find out everything by yourself,please start paying more attention to what your husband says or does…in that way you will definitely find out all the missing pieces." He replied.
"Would you like to go in and say hi??" I asked her.
"Are you insane!?? Let's just leave," she furiously replied.
"Anyway it was a joke,so let's just order something and they deliver it at the office." He started the car and we went back to the office but my head was heavy.
They brought our food but the truth is I wasn't even have an appetite at all and the boss didn't bother to force me because he knows exactly how I'm feeling right now.
Evening reached and I went back home but I wasn't myself at all…I prepared some lasagna for supper because my head had started aching since I skipped lunch.
I first ate before heading upstairs to have a bath…I tried calling Herman but he wasn't picking up my calls and this made me go more crazy.
After one hour,I received his message that he will be late for dinner and that he is going to work an extra two hours.
This would sound okay before,but right now after what I saw earlier today plus what boss told me,I just see lies in this whole text he just sent…I laid in bed but I was just trying to figure out how I'm going to find out everything on my own.
An idea popped up in my mind and I picked up my phone and dialed his kid bro's number.
"Yes hello I need to ask for a favor please," I asked him.
"Yah sure, anything for you sister-in-law," he replied.
"Can you please tell me Herman's office directions? His car ran out of gas and he needs my help but I don't know where it is and it would sound dumb of me if I ask him for directions. I hope you get my point kid," I told him.
"Uhm what do you mean by his office directions??" he asked me.
"Yo like where he works from,his office location," I answered him.
"Okay I got what you said but what's puzzling me right now is that you're asking about his office!!! What office!!?" he asked again.
"Where he works from,please let's do this quickly because I don't want to keep him waiting," I told him.
"Ava,there's no office…wait wait, you don't know!!??" he asked out of curiosity.
"Know what?? What are you talking about??" I asked him.
"Okay I gotta hang up right now,goodnight," he hung up on me.
I tried calling back on his number but it was now switched off,wow!!! This is so much fun!!!…I threw the phone on the bed and started pacing around in the bedroom…it was like everyone around me knew something except me!
Something was really up and the most annoying part is that people who kinda know something are just shutting me out so I guess I'm doing this on my own like my boss advised me…I'm going to get to the bottom of this.
I tried sleeping but I was just lying to myself because my head was a mess right now and there was no way I could compose myself and get some sleep.
I sat on the bed thinking about how I'm going to pull this off without blowing my own cover…I don't know how long I sat there on the bed but when I heard him driving to the driveway,I quickly went under the covers and acted like I was in deep sleep.
He came into the room and kissed me on the forehead before heading to the bathroom…after some minutes he came out and joined me in the bed,as usual he snaked his hand around my waist with his chin on my shoulder.
I acted like I was in deep sleep and I eventually fell asleep after some time but unlike other mornings,today I didn't wake up early…I stayed in bed till he woke up.
"Babe it's late,won't you be late for work today??" he asked in his sleepy voice while checking time on his phone.
"Not really babe,today I'm going a bit late so no worries, good I communicated with the boss because I left when I'm having this severe headache," I replied to him.
"Oh so how are you feeling now my love??" He put his hand on my forehead to check if I had some temperature.
"I'm better babe,I took some antibiotics before sleeping," I wrapped my hands around his neck.
"Okay you stay here,I'll go down and prepare our breakfast," he kissed my forehead and went downstairs.
