He said something in Korean to the driver, his voice low and dangerous, and the driver nodded and pulled away, leaving the man standing alone in the garage.
That's when Alicia heard it.
"Alicia! I know you're here!"
Her blood turned to ice.
Kyle's voice echoed through the concrete structure. He'd woken up. He'd realized she was gone. He'd come looking.
"You think you can just leave me? You think you can run? I'll find you, Alicia! I'll fucking find you!"
The Korean man turned slowly, his eyes tracking the sound of Kyle's voice.
Alicia made a decision she'd regret or thank herself for later.
She ran toward the sedan, yanked open the back door, and threw herself inside, pulling her backpack in after her and slamming the door shut. The interior was dark and smelled like leather and something else, something sharp and clean.
She curled up on the floor behind the driver's seat, her body folded into the smallest shape she could manage, and held her breath.
