Audrey's POV
"This has never happened before!" someone shrieked from the crowd.
"Her reputation will be ruined if she gets thrown like this on video!"
Phones were already out, recording everything. The vultures were circling before the body even hit the ground.
Silvia stepped forward, hands clasped dramatically beneath her chin, her voice carrying that perfect note of manufactured concern. "Someone call the trainers! Do something before it's too late!"
The trainers were running, but they were too far. Pearl's grip was failing. Another buck and she'd be airborne.
I swung onto the black horse.
"What are you doing?" someone shouted. "You're a complete novice! You'll make it worse!"
Another voice, mocking: "Look at her, thinks she's a hero. She'll get herself killed."
I ignored them all, gathering the reins. "I'm going to help her."
I pressed my heels into the horse's sides, and we shot forward.
