Maya's POV
"Chen was poisoned?" I grab the letter. Read it again. "Someone poisoned my baby while he was in foster care?"
Ethan takes the letter from my shaking hands. "This could be a lie. Someone trying to scare us."
"Or it could be the truth. We need to test Chen's blood. Now."
We rush to the hospital. Demand emergency blood work. The doctors resist.
"Chen seems fine now," one doctor says. "Why test for poison a year later?"
"Because someone claims they poisoned him. I need to know if it's true."
"What poison?"
"I don't know. Just test for everything. Please."
They run tests. We wait for hours. Finally, a doctor returns with results.
"We found trace amounts of arsenic in Chen's system. Very small amounts. But enough to cause developmental delays. Enough to affect brain function."
My legs give out. Ethan catches me. "Someone really poisoned him."
"Who had access?" the doctor asks. "During the foster care period?"
