**Eighteen Hours Later**
Emily woke to the sound of her phone buzzing insistently. She fumbled for it, her eyes barely open, and saw Timothy's name on the screen.
"Hello?" Her voice was rough with sleep.
"He's awake," Timothy said, and Emily could hear the relief in his voice. "And he's asking for you."
Emily sat up immediately, exhaustion forgotten. "How is he?"
"Stronger. Clearer. The doctors ran tests this morning his organ function is improving across the board. They're calling it miraculous." Timothy paused. "Emily, I don't know how to thank you."
"You don't need to thank me," Emily said softly. "I'm just glad he's okay."
"Come to the hospital when you can. He wants to meet you properly. When he's not, you know, dying."
Emily smiled despite herself. "I'll be there in twenty minutes."
