The elongated, straw-like mouth widened in an eerie manner, opening like leaves desperate for a ray of sunshine. It intercepted him immediately, blocking his path, all of it directed at Travis. He looked up in surrender, about to let out a devastating scream, when Lucas returned to action.
Lucas folded the edge of his palm, and the abominations once again began to convulse. They wiggled, melting away as slimy liquid sloughed from their bodies, forming a dark, muddy puddle.
Travis gagged, unable to bear the eyesore. Seeing the door to run was right before him, he dashed into it without looking back. Running through the narrow space, he heard the creaking of metal. He stopped and began to tiptoe, making sure it wasn't another nightmare.
Stopping at a distance, he instantly identified the source of the noise: Jordan. Jordan was using a stick to aim at the sky, and when Travis followed his gaze, he saw that the hole they had crept through wasn't opening anymore.
