Damian's Pov
The Beaumont estate glows like wealth. Marble steps, engraved pillars, and chandeliers visible even from outside. I step out of the car and immediately feel the chill through my coat. Two footmen open the front door in perfect unison; the house smells of roast steak and citrus from the kitchen, a richness that presses against my chest.
Their aged butler meets me at the threshold. His face is lined, each wrinkle a witness to decades spent in this house.
"Mr. Blackwell," he bows. "Good to have you here again."
I shake his hand. "Thank you."
I'm led into the dining hall where I spot Nathaniel Beaumont, Alexandra's father, a pharmaceutical titan with a permanent shark-like smile. He stands when he spots me all smiles and practiced calm. His handshake is firm. "Damian. Thank you for coming."
Across from him, Alexandra sits beside my empty chair. Her red dress stands out against the white tablecloth. I take my seat and she rests her hand on mine. I allow her.
