The events of the last few days left anxiety surging through me like a live wire, all thanks to Nessa. That was the height of any emotion I felt anymore, this constant, gnawing dread that something else would go wrong. My head throbbed like it was about to split open.
"Snap out of it."
Kade's authoritative voice cut through my spiraling thoughts like a blade. I looked up from where I'd been staring at the map spread across the war room table, my vision refocusing on my brother's hard expression.
"Worrying about it won't solve anything," he continued, rubbing his hand across his forehead the way he always did when he had a headache. "We need to strategize."
I straightened, forcing myself to focus. He was right. We needed action. Solutions. A way out of this nightmare before it swallowed us whole.
"I think we should send some spies into Shadowfang territory," Kade said, his finger tracing a route on the map. "Get eyes on their operations. Figure out what they're planning."
