Nathan's POV
I let her leave, watching her walk toward the kitchen before heading back to my office. Another meal waits on my desk where the breakfast plate had been cleared away. My pack takes care of me on days like this, though I know it costs them. They feel my grief through our bond, no matter how hard I try to shield them. As their Alpha, complete protection is impossible.
The food remains untouched as I pour another whiskey, shoving Lance's files aside to focus on Krysta's case again. I scan every document, every photograph, searching for something new. Any lead that might bring me closer to finding her. Hours pass without progress. When I finally stand, frustration and rage coursing through me, darkness has settled outside my windows.
I pour another drink and move to the glass, staring into the night.
"You must be so disappointed in me," I tell the empty room. "I know I am."
