Listening to Alpha Holt describe Gianna's progress during her stay here versus witnessing it firsthand creates two entirely different experiences. He spoke truthfully about her transformation. The overwhelming sorrow that clung to her like shadows when she departed has evolved into something more bearable, though not entirely absent.
Her face brightens when our vehicle approaches, bringing warmth to my chest. Part of me wondered whether she would feel any longing for our return.
The moment we step from the car, she launches herself toward me, arms outstretched. The change in her strikes me immediately. Her small frame carries new strength, muscles developing beneath her skin. The relentless running has carved away her childhood softness while sparring sessions with Patton have clearly built her physical foundation.
"Look at you becoming a fighter," I tell her, amazed.
Her eyes widen with surprise, mouth working soundlessly.
"Relax, I was already aware," I murmur.
