Meryl's POV
Terror coursed through my veins as the three predators closed in, their footsteps echoing in the grimy basement that had become my prison. Every muscle in my body shook uncontrollably. My wrists burned from the ropes, and my legs felt like water beneath me. The stench of mold and decay filled my lungs with each ragged breath.
Andre's name fell from my lips in desperate whispers, a prayer to a man who might never find me. Deep in my heart, I knew I was alone. Completely, utterly alone.
The first man's eyes gleamed with sick anticipation as he extended his filthy hand toward my face. I jerked away, unable to summon even a scream. Instead, a low, guttural sound escaped my throat, something that didn't sound human.
He froze for a heartbeat, then his expression twisted with rage. His palm cracked against my cheek with brutal force, sending my head snapping sideways. Stars exploded behind my eyelids. The metallic taste of blood filled my mouth.
