Andre's POV

Racing north, I followed the mate bond that had mysteriously settled into something resembling peace. My pulse hammered against my ribs with such ferocity I thought my heart might actually burst from my chest. Something fundamental had shifted. I couldn't pinpoint exactly what had occurred, but I could sense her presence now. I could feel Meryl's breathing through our connection, deep and measured, not the terrified gasps that had earlier sent waves of her panic straight into my soul, nearly causing me to crash the car.

Now though, she seemed steady. She was breathing. She was alive. Yet no matter how desperately I reached out through our mental link, that pathway remained completely severed. It felt like she existed in some liminal space between safety and peril, and the only certainty burning through me was that I needed to reach her immediately.

I grabbed my phone and called Caesar without hesitation.

"I'm sending you coordinates," I said the instant he answered.
