Meryl's POV
The school's main hall buzzed with energy when we arrived for Family Day. Bright streamers hung from every corner, snack tables lined the walls, and children's laughter echoed off the ceiling as they dragged their parents from station to station. Gavin practically vibrated beside me, his excitement infectious.
The organizers had arranged various competitions throughout the afternoon. Parent-child relay races, balloon-popping challenges, and an elaborate family obstacle course that had everyone talking since we walked in.
The father-child balloon race kicked off first.
Gavin seized Andre's hand and yanked him toward the starting line with such force that Andre stumbled, chuckling as he regained his balance. From my spot on the sidelines, I couldn't stop grinning. Watching them together felt so natural, as if they'd been a team for years instead of months.
