Meryl's POV
When we finally made it back to the house, I was still catching my breath from the whirlwind of emotions that had swept through me earlier. My fingers kept drifting to the engagement ring, touching it like I needed to confirm it was actually there. The whole thing felt like something out of a dream. One moment I was cutting into my dinner, the next I was engaged to the man I'd loved for so long.
Before I could even begin to process everything fully, Gavin's animated voice drifted from the living room, cutting through my thoughts.
He was already home, his excited chatter filling the space as he talked with Omega Elsa. I could hear him going on about something with that boundless energy only children possessed. The moment we stepped through the doorway, I spotted him perched on the sofa next to Elsa, who was listening with that infinite patience she always showed when he launched into one of his marathon storytelling sessions.
