Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Unexpected Encounter

Xiao Rou slowly opened her eyes, groggily taking in her surroundings. She was lying on a soft bed in a luxurious room, with no memory of how she got there. Jian was sitting in a chair beside her, his eyes fixed intently on her face.

"Jian?" Xiao Rou said, her voice shaking slightly. "What happened?"

Jian's expression was unreadable. "You fainted outside the restaurant," he said. "I brought you here to make sure you were okay."

Xiao Rou's mind was foggy, but she remembered the conversation with Mr. Lee. She tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over her.

"Easy," Jian said, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You need to rest."

Xiao Rou pushed his hand away, her heart racing. "I need to tell you something," she said, trying to sit up again.

Jian's eyes narrowed. "What is it?"

Xiao Rou took a deep breath. "It's about Mr. Lee. He's been pressuring me to—"

Just then, Jian's phone rang, interrupting her. He glanced at the screen and stood up.

"I need to take this," he said. "Rest, Xiao Rou. We'll talk later."

As Jian walked out of the room, Xiao Rou felt a surge of frustration. What was going on? And why did Jian seem so distant?

She threw off the covers and got out of bed, determined to find out what was going on. But as she walked to the door, she heard Jian's voice, low and urgent.

"No, I won't let her find out. Not yet."

Xiao Rou's heart skipped a beat. Who was Jian talking to? And what didn't he want her to find out?

Xiao Rou's curiosity was piqued. She carefully made her way back to the bed and pretended to be asleep, trying to listen in on Jian's conversation.

"...I understand, but we need to be careful," Jian was saying. "She's getting suspicious."

Xiao Rou's heart sank. Who was Jian talking to? And what was he hiding from her?

"I'll take care of it," Jian continued. "But we need to make sure she doesn't find out about...you know what I'm talking about."

Xiao Rou's mind was racing. What was Jian hiding? And why was he being so secretive?

Just then, Jian walked back into the room, his expression neutral. "Feeling better?" he asked, his voice calm.

Xiao Rou nodded, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, thanks. What time is it?"

Jian glanced at his watch. "It's getting late. We should head home."

As they drove home in silence, Xiao Rou couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. What was Jian hiding? And why did she feel like she was living in a web of secrets and lies?

When they arrived home, Xiao Rou went straight to her room, feeling exhausted and confused. She couldn't help but wonder what Jian was hiding, and what Mr. Lee's true intentions were.

As she lay in bed, she heard a faint noise coming from her closet. She got up to investigate and found a small piece of paper on the floor.

It was a note, written in red ink: "Don't trust anyone."

Xiao Rou's heart skipped a beat. Who could have written this? And what did they mean?

Xiao Rou's mind was racing. Who could have written this note? And what did they mean by "Don't trust anyone"?

She looked around her room, feeling a sense of unease. Was someone watching her? Was she in danger?

Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a text message. It was from an unknown number.

"Meet me at the old clock tower at midnight if you want to know the truth," the message read.

Xiao Rou's heart skipped a beat. Who was behind this message? And what truth did they want to reveal?

She felt a sense of trepidation, but her curiosity got the better of her. She decided to go to the meeting, hoping to uncover some answers.

As the night wore on, Xiao Rou couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched. She kept looking over her shoulder, but there was no one there.

At midnight, she made her way to the old clock tower, her heart pounding in her chest. As she approached the tower, she saw a figure waiting in the shadows.

"Who are you?" Xiao Rou asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

The figure stepped forward, and Xiao Rou gasped in surprise. It was someone she knew, someone she trusted.

But before she could react, the figure spoke, and Xiao Rou's world was turned upside down.

"Xiao Rou, I'm your sister," the figure said. "And I've been trying to protect you for years."

Xiao Rou's eyes widened in shock. A sister? She had no sister.

"What are you talking about?" Xiao Rou asked, her voice shaking.

The figure took a step closer. "I'm talking about the truth about your family, Xiao Rou. And I'm going to tell you everything.

As Xiaoxin pulled Xiao Rou into the shadows, they found themselves in a narrow alleyway. The footsteps grew louder, and Xiao Rou could see a figure emerging from the darkness.

"Run!" Xiaoxin whispered, grabbing Xiao Rou's hand.

They sprinted down the alleyway, their footsteps echoing off the walls. Xiao Rou's heart pounded in her chest as they ran.

Suddenly, Xiaoxin stopped and pulled Xiao Rou into a nearby doorway. They held their breath as the figure passed by, mere feet away.

"Who is that?" Xiao Rou whispered.

Xiaoxin's eyes locked onto hers. "Someone who wants to hurt you. Come on, we need to get out of here."

They continued to navigate the alleys, dodging debris and leaping over puddles. Finally, they emerged onto a busy street, where Xiaoxin hailed a taxi.

As they sped away from the scene, Xiao Rou turned to Xiaoxin. "What's going on? Who was that?"

Xiaoxin's expression was grim. "We'll talk later. First, we need to get you to a safe place."

The taxi dropped them off at a small apartment building. Xiaoxin led Xiao Rou inside, where they found themselves in a cozy living room.

"Sit down," Xiaoxin said. "We have a lot to talk about."

Xiao Rou's mind was reeling. What was happening? Who was Xiaoxin, really?

As Xiaoxin poured her a glass of water, Xiao Rou noticed a small tattoo on her wrist. It was a symbol she didn't recognize.

"What does that mean?" Xiao Rou asked, pointing to the tattoo.

Xiaoxin's eyes flicked to her wrist. "It's a symbol of our family's legacy," she said, her voice low. "A legacy that comes with great danger."

Xiao Rou's eyes widened. "What kind of danger?"

Xiaoxin's expression turned serious. "The kind that could get us killed."

Xiaoxin quickly grabbed a small bag and pulled Xiao Rou out of the apartment. They rushed down the stairs, their footsteps echoing off the walls.

As they reached the bottom floor, Xiaoxin peeked outside, checking for any signs of danger. Satisfied that the coast was clear, she nodded to Xiao Rou.

"Stay close," Xiaoxin whispered, taking Xiao Rou's hand.

They sprinted down the street, dodging pedestrians and cars. Xiao Rou's heart pounded in her chest as they ran.

After a few blocks, Xiaoxin stopped in front of a sleek black motorcycle. She tossed Xiao Rou a helmet and gestured for her to get on.

"Hold on tight," Xiaoxin said, revving the engine.

Xiao Rou wrapped her arms around Xiaoxin as they sped off into the night. The wind whipped through her hair, and her heart raced with excitement and fear.

As they navigated through the city, Xiao Rou realized she knew nothing about this sister who claimed to be her twin. But she had to trust her – she was the only one who seemed to care about her safety.

After what felt like an eternity, they arrived at a secluded mansion on the outskirts of the city. Xiaoxin led Xiao Rou inside, where they were greeted by a stern-looking woman.

"Welcome, Xiaoxin," the woman said. "We've been expecting you."

Xiaoxin nodded, her expression serious. "This is Xiao Rou," she said. "My sister."

The woman's expression softened slightly as she looked at Xiao Rou. "Welcome, young one," she said. "You're safe now."

But as Xiao Rou looked around the mansion, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was walking into a trap.

The woman, who introduced herself as Madame Liu, led Xiao Rou and Xiaoxin to a luxurious room. "You both need to rest," she said. "We'll talk more tomorrow."

As Madame Liu left, Xiao Rou turned to Xiaoxin. "Who is she?" she asked.

"Madame Liu is a trusted ally," Xiaoxin replied. "She'll help us keep you safe."

Xiao Rou nodded, still feeling overwhelmed. "What's going to happen to me?" she asked.

Xiaoxin's expression turned serious. "You'll learn the truth about our family and the organization," she said. "But first, you need to trust me."

Xiao Rou looked into Xiaoxin's eyes, searching for answers. She saw determination and concern there, and something more – a deep affection.

"I want to trust you," Xiao Rou said. "But this is all so confusing."

Xiaoxin smiled softly. "I know. But I'll be here for you, no matter what."

As they settled in for the night, Xiao Rou couldn't shake the feeling that her life was about to change forever.

The next morning, Xiao Rou woke up to find Xiaoxin already dressed and ready. "Today's the day," Xiaoxin said. "You'll meet the rest of our family and learn the truth."

Xiao Rou's heart skipped a beat. Was she ready for this?

As they made their way to the main hall, Xiao Rou saw a group of people waiting for her. They were all dressed in formal attire, and their eyes seemed to bore into her soul.

"Welcome, Xiao Rou," one of them said, stepping forward. "We've been waiting for you."

Xiao Rou's heart pounded as she faced her new family. What secrets would they reveal? And what would she learn about her past?

As Xiao Rou faced her new family, she felt a mix of emotions. Excitement, fear, and uncertainty swirled in her chest.

The leader of the group, a tall, imposing figure, stepped forward. "Welcome, Xiao Rou," he said, his voice firm but not unkind. "I am your uncle, Longwei. We've been searching for you for a long time."

Xiao Rou's mind reeled as she tried to process this new information. Her uncle? She had so many questions.

Just as Longwei began to speak, a loud explosion rocked the mansion. Gunfire erupted outside, and screams filled the air.

Xiaoxin's voice was urgent in her ear. "Xiao Rou, we have to go! Now!"

As they turned to flee, Xiao Rou saw a figure emerge from the smoke-filled hallway. A figure she knew all too well.

"Jian?" she whispered, her heart racing.

But Jian's eyes weren't the warm, gentle ones she remembered. They were cold, hard, and filled with a deadly intent.

"Xiao Rou," he said, his voice dripping with malice. "You're coming with me."

And with that, everything went black
